Hi guys

Hope this is the appropriate place to make this request. Instructions (scans preferred) needed for the above kit. Found that i've misplaced mine and now i'm in a spot - i've searched the net including www.1999.co.jp but they don't seem to have this kits instructions. Alternatively, if someone can direct me to the correct website, i'd much appreciate it - thanks.

Pak 44 - 12.8cm Anti-Tank Gun (1:35)

As soon as I saw this one arrive from airbrushes.com, it piqued my interest, as it was just crazy looking, with its 6-wheels and giant perforated flash-hider. You can see the review here, and I decided straight away that this would be the next item up on the build pile.

The kit's instructions are complex, and as such I resolved to follow them closely, to avoid any mistakes on my part during the build (if possible). The build starts with the "legs" that support the base, which have a few bits of added Photo-Etch to busy them up. Here I spotted a goof with the instructions, and the bases of the side legs B32 and B33 should be transposed, as they're handed incorrectly on the instructions. There's a helpful positioning diagram to help place the PE in the proper places, which is full-scale, so makes that particular job easier. The "front" leg is rigid, while the side legs hinge sideways. The rear leg however raises, but there doesn't seem to be any pivot point included with the kit, so it wobbles and falls off once complete, as you're told not to glue it. I might put a brass rod through it later on to allow it to pivot if I feel the need.

I decided to build the kit with the supplied plastic barrel and flash hider, as Airbrushes.com were out of the upgrade set (which looks great btw), so I glued the parts carefully, paying attention to the alignment of the parts. This paid off, and the seams were soon obliterated with a bit of sanding. There is a strange shallow depression at 90o to the seam though, so that also needs some work. The flash-hider went together nicely, but due to the restrictions of tooling, all of the perforations pointed in one direction. To remedy this, I inserted a suitably sized reamer in each hole, and reamed it out slightly to the same size for each one. The result is a much more pleasing look to the part. I also replaced some rather weak raised lines around the barrel with some styrene strip, as they had got damaged during sanding.

Next up was the front trolley, with working suspension. I had my doubts about whether this would work, but apart from a bit of three-handed juggling of the parts during assembly, it worked out well. I found that gluing the two top suspension pivots together around the chassis and the wheel back, then inserting the spring, and finally adding the bottom suspension pivot worked well. Far fewer hands needed, and you get plenty of time to fill the small sink marks in the parts. I've yet to add the soft wire representing the brake hoses, and I think I'll leave those until later.

Anyway - a picture of all the assemblies so far.

Tamiya 1/35th Hetzer.

How have you all been? Well I trust. There has been some great work done since I was last here (I've been having a good look around since yesterday). I've just returned from a month in Japan, visiting my wife and kids (they're there for a year so the kids can become fluent in their mother toungue). While in Kyoto I found a new shop (wasn't there 14 years ago when I lived there) that would make you drool. Stuff on the shelves you'd be hard pressed to find online back here. I was on a tight budget though, so there was no gorging unfortunately. Not even a nibble as it happens. Oh, the agony!

Anyway, my last model was the King Tiger, in a thread here somewhere. I've just got through washing the Tamiya Hetzer (mid production) in detergent, already have the Fruil tracks for it (bought the model and tracks over a year ago) and have just ordered the Eduard etch for it. I intend to take pictures as I go, as I did with the KT, for your and my jollification. I've come up with a genre now though; 'Lost Panzers'. I intend to model a series of Panzers that have lain undiscovered over the years since the war. Somewhat fanciful, I know, though Bulgaria gives me some licence. Each will be mounted in a Tamiya display case on a dioramic setting.

So hey ho, off I go, watch this space and all that jazz.

Dragon Nashorn

Hey everyone!

Here's my latest armour kit, Dragon's Smart Nashorn. This is the first armour kit that I've completed since the Sherman that featured in my 'Workshop' diorama last summer and I was amazed at how much, building aircraft, had made me forget how to paint armour! Anyhoo, I've tried to keep this one as straight as possible and copy what I could see in the images that I was using of the real vehicle (especially those in Allied Axis, from which I copied peicemeal, the stowage inside the vehicle...) rather than overwhelming it with de riguer effects (many of which I'm rubbish at anyway!!!). As such, I've kept chipping to a minimum and concentrated more on dust and stain traces that help pop the detail and then accented those, with plenty of additional features such as the ammo inside the fighting compartment. There's still a little touching up to do here and there and I'll definitely be adding a figure - but other than that I think its done!

I 'ope you like it!

Spence

Hi Guys,

Here is my latest finished model: and AFV Club MkIII Churchill with Inside the Armour interior and a number of scratchbuilt details

When I came to make this one I found out that you can't really build an accurate KingForce churchill out of the box (despite the kits boxtop artwork!) so I have to build a new rear air outlet, a canvass 'dodger for the front, new exhaust pipes, sunshield rails, drop the side air intakes, rearrange the tools and add the stowage seen on so many of these tanks

Anyway, after all that was done, it turned out OK, not perfect, but good enough for its intended use as a demonstrator on the ITA stand at shows

Here it is:

All comments and constructive criticism is very welcome!

Thanks for looking

Chris

Italeri 1/35 Jagdpanther

Finally finished this one off over the bank holiday weekend.
Built OOB with the only addition being a length of 0.3mm wire for the aerial.
Made a couple of silly mistakes, firstly by attaching the lifting eyes for the engine compartments back to front, and also I think the German cross markings are too low and far forward on the sides.
Had a bit of a struggle getting the vinyl tracks to stick, seemed to resist everything except a bucket load of cyano.... apart from that it all went together well.
Help needed with a British Honey - the M3 Stuart variety!

Hi all,
am normally a denizen of the aircraft forums, but make very occasional forays into armour modelling. My next project project has a family connection. I have an Academy M3 Honey which I want to do as my great uncle's tank in the North African desert, Feb 1942. He was an officer in the Sherwood Foresters, and lead a rather interesting life; after being severely wounded in the desert, he then went on to be one of the first tanks off on D-Day.

I have a very clear photo of the right side of 'his' Honey. It appears to be a very clean overall sand colour, with two triangles painted on different facets of the turret, each with a vertical bar inside them. It has a very long aerial, which suggests a command tank(?) and part of a name painted on the hull of the tank - white letters on a dark rectangle. He, and one of his crewman are standing in front of the name, but the letters ??PHI?? are visible. I think I am right in saying that each tank had a name that began with the letter of the troop/squadron it was assigned to - A,B,C etc, but I don't know which one he was assigned to.

I was rather wondering if those with considerably more expertise than me might be able to guide me on the following.
1. The triangle markings - what were they for? Were they black or red? would they have appeared on the other side?
2. Camo scheme - was it overall sand, or might there be other colours? I'm thinking here of the Bellman 3 colour scheme shown in the kit.
3. Would this tank have likely carried the desert rat marking on the left hand fender, and the red/white stripes under the front of the hull?
4. Any possible guesses as to what the name could have been? I don't know if names were standardised, or were at the discretion of the individual troop. If the former I am hoping it will be fairly easy to establish. If not . . . well, best guess!

I appreciate that there will be few definitive answers to the above, but if any of you guys has any info or expertise to share on British Army Honeys in the North African desert in early 1942 (!) that will at least get me into the right ball park for a reasonably accurate model I would be very grateful indeed, as indeed would my father, who still has Uncle Terence's letters from the front in his possession. I guess it's my own way of connecting with my family's past and keeping it alive in some way. Anyway, many thanks in advance.
Paul

Greetings!

This will be my entry into this GB, and also my first entry into any GB on this site. Fact is I build mostly aircraft models but am always trying to learn new things. Weathering armor is one of those things! I haven't actually completed any armor since I was a kid so this kit represents 'jumping into the deep end' in many ways. It seems to be a very complex kit with over 700 parts.

I'll be referring to Mike's fantastic build often as this goes along for sure!

The box:

Fact is this won't be started for some time yet. Many other irons in the fire. I figure that a year-long Gb should give me the time needed to get it finished though.

Wish me luck!

Centurion Mk.3

My new neighbour saw my stash on display in the conservatory* and it's sparked some interest. (So, it is possible to get people interested in models even if you don't have a High Street shop!) He'd like to while away the winter evenings building a Centurion like the ones in which he was a driver/gunner while on National Service. (Alright, so he's 77 - but it's still technically new blood!) He's shown me the photos and from them and the date (1951) I'm fairly sure it was the Mk.3 he was driving.

Now, we all know AFV Club's Centurions are the current standard and the old Tamiya / Academy / Modelcraft job is better avoided. Unfortunately AFV Club's range doesn't go further back than the Mk.5/1 in Australian service, whereas the old Tamiya clunker is a Mk.3. However, the differences between a Mk.3 and a Mk.5/1 don't appear to be great - but I'm not really an expert on the Centurion. Can anyone provide a quick list of the main changes that would need to be made to back-date the AFV Club kit? (Worry not about the decals - they'll have to be sourced from somewhere entirely different, I suspect.) Or would it be easier just to buy both and rob the Tamiya kit to fit out the AFV Club one?

* they won't stay there, and the decals are safe out of the heat. The only problem is that all the box art is going blue as the yellow ink fades.
