Putty Animal Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Shameful self-promotion. Here is a new book from... me! The book is titled, First World War Aircraft in Scale: Scratchbuilding in 1/144 Scale. It has just become available for preorder from Fonthill Media and is due to be released in July. The book is dedicated to 1/144 scale aircraft of the First World War and includes six individual scratchbuilt projects created entirely by hand. It has 192 pages and 266 colour illustrations, with individual chapters on specific aircraft such as the Royal Aircraft Factory FE.2b, Airco DH.2 and Pfalz D.III and D.IIIa, as well as Nieuport 17 scouts. This is my first book and it has been a real labour of love, I hope you will like the look of it. A huge thanks to Fonthill Media in the UK for the opportunity. To find out more you can visit their website below. https://www.fonthill.media/products/ww1-in-scale Cheers! 12 1
Farmer matt Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Duly ordered and now eagerly awaited! Hope it is a success for you, Matt
Britman Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 I envy your dexterity! Good luck with this, I presume it reads across to larger more 'sensible' scales? Keith
Farmer matt Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Bump for this as now received and very good it is, too. Featuring @Putty Animal's giant matchstick, and written in the same modest and informative manner as his wip threads. Even if 1/144 is not your scale, the techniques will aid detailing and construction whatever you build. Matt 1
DaddyO Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Pre-ordered this because I've seen William's work elsewhere (eek! you mean he visits other forums!?!?) It arrived earlier this week and I've been reading it ever since. Even if you are not remotely interested in building 1/144th scale models to his insanely high standard there will be something in this book that makes your modelling better or easier. There are a couple of modelling volumes that I refer back to regularly and this one just joined that elite club - brilliant. Do yourself and your modelling a favour rush out and beg, borrow or buy a copy immediately - It really is that good. Congrats to all involved 😁 Paul 1
Putty Animal Posted September 16, 2024 Author Posted September 16, 2024 Ah, that is fantastic news! Thank you both 🙏 I really hope you enjoy it. My own copy should be on the way soon and I'm looking forward to checking it out. I hear that Casemate is about to print it in the US too, so hopefully it will be available over there soon without the international shipping costs. 👍 2
Mike Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I've moved this to the Fonthill area, as otherwise I'd have to remove it due to the self-publicist rule. You're a regular contributor here however, not one of those that only turns up to promote their own wares, and Fonthill are here too, so leeway is offered 1
Fonthill Media Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 William, Many thanks for the promotion of your book as it all helps! With very best wishes, Jay Publisher 1
Dave Slowbuild Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 William, Your book arrived a few days ago and I have just finished reading it; I found it astonishing and inspiring in equal measure. Not that this should come as a surprise to anyone who has seen your work here on BM! It will be a go-to source for me when looking for solutions to tricky modelling challenges. I’m already planning a few experiments! Your easy writing style also makes for a great read. I shall certainly be giving scratch building a go! Many congratulations on the book, Dave 1 1
Putty Animal Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 Hi Dave, I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! It's been a huge relief to see the book so well received. I hope some of the scratchbuilding methods will be useful. Very excited to see you have a go! 2
