I have the nagging feeling that I am committing to a bit too much, but the subject is irresistible. Count me in please... I have a year to decide if it is going to be a 109B, an I-15 or a Type VIIA sub.π

I feel watched from ... I won't say how many boxes.π So please count me in, so that there may be one less! -
"Hidden in plain sight", my wife always teases me about this.π Brushwork looks great, and congrats on finding the hidden HUD! As to the AMRAAMs: my take would be that if its the same type, it can carry the same missiles. I would not hesitate to put them on a bird stationed in Germany.

"Steel Fish" is a great title. Please count me in with a submarine. Nothing too complicated, a Kaiten or a modern cigar probably.

The Scheuch-Schlepper should be in standard army Dunkelgelb (Dark Yellow). Discussions as to what colour is the correct one have been ranging far and wide for ages and have led to no definitive result. I use Tamiya XF-60, but you probably have a paint manufacturer of choice with some form of Dunkelgelb, so I would just go with that.

Next: plugs are cut and sanded to form a base for smaller holes (0.1 mm), where the invisible sewing thread will go. I have never rigged a plane before, so this will be a learning experience... Members from my local group have suggested the following method: (1) Drill small holes for the thread in fuselage and wings (all through). (2) After all the painting is done, glue thread into pre-drilled holes on the fuselage, then through the holes in the wings. Tension as required. (3) cut & sand, repair damage to finish. I'll try that one and we'll all see how it will come out. π Holes sanded, rudimentary interior has been built, everything waiting for the pilot now. Pilot painted to my eyes' (but probably not the image's) satisfaction and has taken a seat. There will be no steering column. Rigging holes have been drilled; took a few attempts until the distance was right on the double holes near the wheel wells, but new plugs are easily inserted and cut & sanded for a new attempt, and it's ok now. I would say: ready to assemble the fuselage.

Finally getting started. First step: plug all holes intended for the rigging wires, since they are too large (IMO). The other holes are actual openings that can be seen on real veteran planes, too, so I have left them untouched. Seat and floor are glued into position, pilot undergoes surgery to fit under the Yahu instrument panel. I had to cut off parts of the panel (which is a shameπ) to make the pilot's legs fit underneath. My idea is that the pilot will lend interest to a part of the model that has much less detail than e.g. the ICM model. Pilot is from my box of figures, I don't remember what kit he came from... possibly Hasegawa. The shoulders of the standard Airfix pilots (which I love) are too wide; this figure is narrower but will sit to deep in the cockpit, so I gave him something to sit on. No painting necessary there, seat floor will be covered by the pilot's behind.

Have you decided already which version it is going to be, red or camo? Both look great... I just love this plane. π

Big parts get glued together. Basically, everything fits well, but you need some force to let it really sit where it should - if not, you will regret it when the time comes to sand e.g. the forward wing edge. The clamps are eating well today. Lego ensures that the front edge (which has sort of a rectangular profile) gets no overlapping parts, to hopefully save on sanding later. Almost all parts in the kit have been assembled, except for the base of course. I will do the cleanup with hull and wings separate for better handling, but I think they can be assembled without a gap that needs to be filled. Also, I keep telling myself that I will not forget to glue in the windows before hull & wings are joined... But it's not forbidden to snap everything together. Being a serious adult, I will of course not hold it in the air and hum the Blue Danube Waltz. -
Good work on the freehand camo edgesπ looks like you have just abolished masking for your future camo painting! Looking forward to seeing this beautiful plane finished.

Fast work, nice result!π About the grey: as I understand it, there is disagreement whether early Legion Condor 109s were painted RLM 62 or RLM 63 topside... it has even been claimed that the a/c were painted a dark green and the light colour on photographs is the result of cheap photo film emulsion. Ghost Grey (Humbrol 127) has no green in it, so you might meet some criticismπ€·ββοΈ but the truth is: nobody really knows what the topside colour looked like - I for one think your choice looks very similar to what can be seen on photographs. -

Thank you for the kind words, I hope I can give you an interesting result. So far, I have masked off the passenger windows and the edges of the hull parts and sprayed the interior with black primer (I use Citadel Chaos Black). One might think that the windows all have the same dimensions, but they don't - height is identical, but width varies by a millimetre or so, enough that every window must be custom masked. Not a chore, just need to cut a 3 mm wide strip of masking tape, eyeball-cut a rectangle, check what window it will fit, put it on, next rectangle.π I have considered putting in an interior, but online photos of finished builds have convinced me that it is quite some money and effort for (IMO) very little in terms of a result, except perhaps if you add lighting, which is not my thing. So: next step, glue the hull parts together. I will try to postpone gluing in the windows for as long as possible, to avoid any chance of getting paint where it shouldn't go. Parts crudely masked, just to save me the work of cleaning up black paint on parts that will be white: Parts primed black - window parts are of course reversed (looking from the inside, so to speak): -

I would like sooo much to build my I-153 in Spanish colours to complement your 109 (a nice kit, I built it long ago), but alas - various versions of the I-15 and the I-16 flew in Spain, but not the I-153. -
I have this kit too - have you decided already what version it is going to be? Lots of options in this great kit!

All of mine had sinkholes in the first stage, symmetrical since the halves are from identical sprues - did yours?
