Suggestions for 2012 group build ideas.

Further to our resident Jedi's thread in which he mentions anniversaries in 2012, here are a few ideas which may prompt someone to suggest a
Group Build connected with one of them.

In no particular order:-

Malta's George Cross
Battle of Midway
El Alamein (both battles)
The Dieppe Raid
Battle of the Java Sea
PQ17
Operation "Torch"
The "Baedeker" Raids

It's possible I may suggest something nearer the time.
Muscle Car GB

A lot of us on here are aviation orientated towards building models, probably 70-30 in its favour, I may be wrong, but another firm subject that I have followed a huge part in my life is the history of the American Muscle Car. So much so, I am in the process of hopefully starting my own business restoring these great cars. I have had a few ideas for GB's as has everyone else but it is this subject on 'Yank Tanks' that led me to the idea of a Muscle Car Group Build 1965-1985.

Their are some good kits, old and new on the market of these types of cars, I myself have around eight types by AMT alone but maybe others here on BM have kits of these cars and thought a group build on this subject will allow us to bring out the kits and build them for us all to see, plus its a very different subject than the norm.

What you all think?

P.S.
Anyone fancy a weekend blitzbuild?

At the Elvington show I was boasting about how I had built a 1:48 Tamiya spitfire Mk1 in 18 hours. I had just got my hands on Airfix's new 1:48 Bf109 and Ollie (Ollie Holmes) challenged me to build it in 48 hours.

Well this has got Ollie and myself thinking. Ollie would like to have a go at something similar to hone his skills and we come up with the idea of a mini GB run over a weekend. The idea is you pick a kit from your stash, pick a 24 hour time-frame over the weekend and build it. Out of the box from sprue to final coat of varnish.

So who's interested? If we get enough I'll make it a forum GB and set it up if there is a just a few of us well just have a friendly build amongst friends.

Would this be ok for the foreign soviot GB?

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to that GB, my first ever and also my fave subject DDR Migs. Su's etc

one slight problem, before it ends, usually May or in july just as it does end i should be back visiting Germany- Dresden, Berlin, Cottbus, Ruegen, Niesky etc (see i love E Germany lol)

I wanted to do a couple of 32nd Kits, MIg 23 and Mig21 UM and some armour (soviot of course but used by DDR) Mi 8 AN 2 SA 6 tank Sa 2 missles and even a SU-22 (or 3 lol) as most of these are going to be museum pieces.

trouble is, i take models to museums and people i know (like this example http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Flugzeuge/Ga...21_F-13_de.html )

At the moment im having to save for a compressor, then need to practise a bit and i was wondering what the actual rules are, i noticed some GB's allow a kit to be started a little etc, like i noticed in the brick GB

It would be impossible to do all the models from the start from March so i was wondering if in Dec or Jan, i could start them along i wth WIP etc but only to the amount allowed of pre started stuff for this GB. (i have many identical kits, but i wouldnt start any before hand, then suddenly 'jump' to heres one i just started on the first day lol)

I usually build aircraft of ones i have seen, and know the history of

If anyone objects, not a prob, i dont want special treatment and i know it wouldnt be right to even think about it until Jan to do a little on each if at all.

At the moment im working on a single seat 32nd Mig 21 (as a gift too) but that wont be painted until i get a compressor plus it needs some other things and i have other stuff to work on in the short term anyway.

I know your only allowed to enter one entry in a GB but i have nooooooooooooo idea which one i would pick until the very end.

ok now i wrote all this, i think its cheating or bending the rules too much lol.

USAAF Europe, 1942-1945

Well folks, Mish mentioned recently that the GB calendar is pretty full up to the start of 2012, and that started me thinking: are there any anniversaries that could be marked that year? One that springs readily to mind is the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the American air forces in Britain in 1942. A GB could include any type that was based in the UK, from 1942 through to the end of the war in Europe. Any model would have to be in authentic markings for a British-based machine, and the GB would also allow figures, ground support vehicles and equipment, buildings, airfield dioramas, etc.

Hopefully there'll be enough interest from both sides of the pond (as well as around the world) to get this one up and running, and it'll give us all an excuse to build the (hopefully) lovely new Revell B-17G.

So, who's up for this?

Obi-Jiff

Whilst watching The Antiques Roadshow from Brooklands on Sunday (15th August), I thought to myself "This could make for a good GB." The subjects could include any type of aeroplane that was built at or flew from Brooklands, and any type of car that raced there. If you stretch the rules a bit more, you could also include any of the types currently on show at Brooklands, including the Concorde.

So, is anyone else interested?

Obi-Jiff

I was thinking about group builds and wondered what else we could do.

I then thought about this Royal Aircraft Establishment Build as an idea. The common thought would be Rasberry Ripple schemes but I'm thinking that we do not have just aircraft in the usual red, white and blue colours but aircraft that wore the colours of just red and yellow, common at RAE Bedford and Llanberdr for example. Their are a lot of aircraft that had these colours between the 1960's-80's. I remember being on holiday when a kid at a Caravan site at the end of Llanbedr's runway and watching Meteors guiding in Jindervik remote aircraft and skidding them in on the runway into a catch net.

I think the options available would be quite substancial and would also make a great Group Build.

What do you think people?

Interested members so far:-

RobMac
F111Fan
Notdoneyet
Whirly
RussTnailZ
Giorgio (prov)
Pigsty (prov)
kspriss

Registration of a fictive German Airliner D-?

I got a question to the Pro's on this board

Is there any sense behind the aircraft registrations? Let's take the Concorde of New York: G-BOAD. The G stands for Great Britain ... that's for sure ... as well as the F is for France and the D for Germany (Deutschland). But what does the following four letters stay for? I ask because I'll build two fictive planes in colors they never had of an airline that doesn't exist anymore ... a Concorde and an Airbus A380 of the former East German airline Interflug. Before the wall fell they got the registration DDR followed by three letters (i.e. the first Airbus has got DDR-ABA). After the reunification of both Germany's the plane has got D-AOAA. Is there any scheme on those registrations? And if so, what would an Interflug-A380 and a Concorde get in this scheme after the reunification in case of a German registration starting with D-? The Lufthansa A380 for example has got the D-AIMA.

Thanks in advance, guys!

GB News July/August 2010

July and August sees a busy time in the Group Build forums, with four Group Builds ending and four brand new Group Builds starting.
In July we have the Ferrari Group Build and the Great War Group Build coming to an end with some fantastic builds in each. The Great War GB has some superb prizes on offer, including a choice of decals for the best aircraft and a set of resin for the second place aircraft kindly donated byr Rowen Broadbent of Pheon Models Also in July we saw the start of the Airliner Group Build hosted by Richellis and Antony Robinson. Also we have the start of the What If Group Build hosted by Daniel and Col. This looks like being a very busy and exciting Group Build with over 70, yes 70 proposed entries. I think this might take the record for the most popular Group Build ever on Britmodeller.

In August we have the ending of the mammoth year long Gulf War Group Build and the end of the Night Fighter Group Build. Starting in August we have the start of the Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Group Build hosted by Walrus and myself, and at the back end of August we sees the start of the Buccaneer Group Build hosted by Olli Holmes and Mark Marples.

So as you can see there is a lot going on and plenty for everyone. In fact over the next 18 months we will have a minimum of four Group Builds running at any one time, there is bound to be something of interest for everyone. If not come along to the Group Build Chat forum and suggest a Group Build.

Happy Modelling

Mish

Aircraft of the Ark

Evening all,

The idea came about during a discussion in a thread regarding aircraft and colours of aircraft assigned to Ark Royal in the 1970's.

Well, one thing has lead to another and I suggested an "Aircraft of the Ark" group build... this would include all aircraft types which flew from a ship with the name Ark Royal.

My initial thought was to restrict it to types which sailed with her

However, I might be swayed to include aircraft that flew test flights from her deck (P1127) and even aircraft from other countries that cross decked (obviously, photo evidence to support the proposal would be appreciated!)

Let me know what you think!

Cheers!

John

"Battle of the Bulge" GB

Hi all,

As a Belgian I feel the need to point out that this year it's the 65 th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennes).

I do realize that this years GB calendar is fully booked.

But passing this date on without doing nothing seems not right to me.

Basicly subject directly linked to the battle. Mainly in winter camouflage.I also feel that this should be a "groundforce" GB. Planes ofcourse played a mayor part in the battle once the weather improved. But the main fighting was done on the ground.

But a plane-diorama depicting a plane fully snowed under not able to fly could be allowed too.But not just any plane of that time-frame.

This link gives you more info...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge

The battle took place from 16 th Dec 44 to 25 Jan 45. That is just about five weeks. Howabout those dates as GB dates ? ( from 16 th Dec 2010 to 25 Jan 2011 )
