Wee John Paul fae Airdrie

Wee John Paul fae Airdrie always wanted to look pure dead cool. His friend told him that he needed a good designer pair of trainers to go with his shell suit.

John Paul saved up all his Giros and all the money he got back from returning his empty bottles of Bucky and finally managed to get himself a pair of brilliant white trainers to go with his shell suit.

Proudly, he strutted down the street calling out to all the passers by "See ma new trainers? Cool, by the way!"

One fine upstanding gentleman pointed out that they were indeed a fine pair of trainers but was young John Paul aware that he had a lace undone?

John Paul scornfully retorted that it was an essential part of being pure dead cool to have a trailing lace and that on the sole of the trainer there were indeed instructions for the wearer to do such a thing. When asked for proof of this instruction, John Paul took off his trainer and held it upside down for the disbeliever to read.

"There y'are!" he proudly declaimed.

"It clearly says...

...Taiwan!"

How do they get it wrong?

Watching BBC news (think it was sunday/monday eve) they had the story of the government U-turn on the JSF. Fine. Then they had multiple shots of F/A-18E and F Super Hornets (which opens an entirely different can of worms as far as acquiring new carrier capable a/c is concerned!). I thought this was a bit of a one off, getting the wrong picture.

Today, Al Jazeera ran the story of the Pentagon limiting F-22 flights due to safety concerns. Anyone hazard a guess which aircraft took to the screen? Mirage 2000's. They even had close ups of the TER's with AASM's...

Do they not check this before they run it? Or do they just say 'Sod it, no-one will notice'.?

Anyone else notice any howlers?

Maybe I could market myself to a news broadcaster as an 'Aircraft Verifier'...(and write my own cheques!)!!!

Top 10 of all-time classic kits

Been wondering about this one for a while, if you had to choose a list of 10 all-time classics, a bit like those "10 films to see before your 40" or whatever, what kits would make it, by consensus, onto that list. Not neccesarily the best, just those kits that seem to sum up modelling in way or another.

For exmaple:

Tamiya 1/35 88mm gun - that kit must have sold gazillions for Tamiya, it might not be the best 88mm ggun out there these days, but building one perhaps ranks as a must-have experience.

Airfix 1/24 Spitfire Mk.I - its a Spit, its Airfix, it was breaking the mould (literally) of what could be done at the time.

Monogram 1/48 P-51D Mustang - how many modellers cut their teeth on this one? PLenty of better kits out there these days, but the Monogram kit is for one generation the P-51D kit.

And there I run out. It would be nice to have just one all-time-great kit from every kit company, I have some ideas, but what would you put on that list? Matchbox, Frog, Hasegawa...

Persistence thy fruits are success...many of you long time BM'ers know I'm a very big fan of Brit comedy especially the sitcoms. Well after a very long and exhaustive search I've successfully found the one comedy I've been looking high and low to find. Don't laugh me Brit cousins ya see ol' 'arris never gives up mates. "As Time goes by" with Geoffrey Palmer and Dame Judy Wench ...whom I find a very comely we......attractive lady despite her age; is one Brit sitcom I used to watch on PBS (USA) I just couldn't for all the ice in Alaska or tea in China, remember what the name of it was. I am now wearing youtube out watching all and everything I can that has any of this fantastic very well acted and written show in it. As I've come to learn the two stars are very talented and have a wide range of genres in which they can and do perform. As the younguns here in the states so commonly say "you go Judy, YOU ROCK!!!. From being 007's boss to being Lionels Love....Miss Dench is very much a joy to watch, which I am and enjoying every very British second of it.

Big modelling projects, when to start?

I've noticed that quite a few of us hold the ambition of building a series of models in a theme. The most popular of these seems to be to build every type of harrier. I've spent a while collecting kits, resin and decals to build every jet used by the FAA in 1/72, from the attacker to the harriers and including hunters and hawks etc.

I was waiting for my skills to develop a bit more but looking at my last few models I seem to have plateued a bit. But when on earth will I have the stamina to build 15 or so consecutive models and where would I put them if I did! I wonder if Hannants have enough pots of EDSG!

Any thoughts on how people have overcome such predicaments?

New Walkaround Section

Hi,

with help from Mike, the other mods and the review team I have been working on getting a walkaround section here on Britmodeller. This will hopefully contain the sort of detail shots only modellers need. ie the left handed widget on the Blackburn Wurlitzer etc. We are aiming for Aircraft, helicopters, Tanks, Softskins, airliners, Ships, Subs, Weapons, Ejection seats, ground equipment. Basically anything of interest to the modeller.

QUOTE

The idea behind the walkaround section is to provide the modeller with a centralised source of detailed pictures that will be invaluable as a reference for model making rather than simply pictures of aircraft.

We welcome submissions from all, either by email to Julien's address, by CD or DVD via the postal system, or by us copying them from your online hosting (e.g. your webspace or Photobucket account), with your permission of course.

The following guidelines will help you get your photos accepted:

Pictures should be 1024 x 800 pixels as a maximum, with 800 x 600 a minimum

Files should be in the .jpg format with a high quality setting

If you are submitting pictures that are already online, please include the web address (URL) where we can find them

The submitter should own copyright to the photos submitted, and permit Britmodeller.com to host these files for viewing and downloading by modellers for their own private use

We will attribute the pictures to the owner, so please include your full name with your submissions

Members wishing to submit photos can contact Julien directly by personal message to discuss making their submissions.

Guys & gals this section will only be as good as the info we can get and post up.

If you would like to contribute then please let me know.

many thanks

Julien
