Hunter T.7 - 74 Sqn - Lets try that again part 2

Late last year I built a 74 Sqn Hunter T.7 from the Matchbox kit. Like my 74 Sqn Phantom FGR.2, I`m going to `upgrade` and redo this using the Extrakit version. I`ve heard it`s not easy, but I don`t do easy and this will give me a chance to cure that ever present etch phobia I have.

Here`s the current one, and yes I`m going to correct those training bands to the correct colour......

.... and as you will note, the new kit`s box is now open, so Pandora, here I come......

HK Models 1/32 B-25J

I have been waiting for a 1/32 B-25 for as long as i can remember. When i saw Hannants had them in i had to make the trip. Its alot of money for me and i wanted to make sure it was worth it. I wasnt dissapointed.
This kit is one of the best molded kits i have ever seen. There are no photos of it anywhere that do it justice , you have to see it in the plastic! One of the things i really like is that theres very good detail in the parts you will be able to see and not much in the places you cant. I cant decide on markings yet. Some of the ones on the ZOTZ sheet look good but 23 quid on a decal sheet is too much for me. Im really leaning towards a PBJ-1J at the moment. I can easily scratchbuild a wing pod.
OK on with a couple of photos. Heres the photos of the cockpit straight from the box. All of those levers are seperate.

Airfix 1/48 Lynx AH7 TOW (Probably....)

Probably.... cos I've not actually decided what I'm going to do this one (my 4th so far) as.

Started taken some pics quite late on in this build as we've already seen the initial build stages of this kit.

This particular build will concentrate on going a bit mad on the detail. My intentions are to do the following;

From nose to tail -
Nose avionics bays detailed
Super detailed cockpit and cabin area (completed)
Detailed TOW booms
Left hand side footstep access down (with portion of gearbox showing). (Completed. Gearbox made from a blob of milliput dressed with H beam styrene and random bits of PE. Gearbox floor area painted green and dressed with I beam styrene)
The left hand footstep is usually dropped whenever the engine bay door is open as this is used to climb up to the decking...which leads me on to the open port engine bay...
Engine bay opened. Engine bay decking made using take-away alloy tray, cut to shape and riveting applied to the floor area.
Engine scratch built with appropriate (and reasonably accurate piping, plumbing and wiring harness) (Completed)
Rear (underside) avionics bay door opened. The inner portion of the door will be dressed and detailed.
Entire tail boom tail rotor drive shafts exposed with associated covers open. Tail Intermediate gearbox scratch built with associated gubbins.

Err, thats about it so far.

Anyway, some photos;

Seats dressed with inertia release mechanisms and reels, first aid kits and fire extinguisher.

3 man seat harnesses and back rest detail.

black wiggly bits in roof with brass tubing are the NVG wander lamps

Footstep access cut out and gearbox detail exposed

Engine bay decking made from alloy take-away tray. I'll stick a thin sheet of styrene on the top area to act as the base.

IGB cover drilled and cut to accept mesh on the inside.

Thats it for now. Going to start on the nose avionics bay area. Luckily I still have all my drawings and dimensions from my AA 1/35 Lynx so I'll use those as templates but just make them a bit smaller

Identification of WW1 aircraft models

I have been passed a CD of photos of WW1 and WW2 aircraft by an aviation museum (I am a WW2 and post-war modeller) to try and identify the types/units/air foces of each. As I know next to nothing about WW1 types/units I would be grateful for help with this. The museum has many models on display but around 100 are not as they do not know what they are. I will post up links to my Photobucket album of these photos a batch at a time. I would appreciate identifaction of each one, please start you reponse with the photo number so I may collate the answers. The photos have numbers like MG8932 and so on. Here is the first batch.(Once captions with details appear under photos in each batch please scroll down to the next batch for identification).

MG-8921 Handley-Page 0/400

MG-8931 Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter MAY belong to No. 3 Wing, RNAS

MG-8933 Airco DH4

MG-8934 Fokker E IV

MG-8937 Short 184

MG-8936 Fokker D 11

I have an old book: The World's Fightng Planes by William Green; London. Copyright in 1965.

It states that the F.A.W.
UK F-35 First Flight

Haven't seen this posted anywhere so I thought I'd put it up.

The first UK F-35 made its first flight last week, so we can now see the UK colour scheme in all its glory:

(Photo is copyright Lockheed Martin and available from their Flickr page)

Yes, she's grey, exactly the same as the American ones. I'm not a fan of the jet, but aesthetically she is growing on me. I'm definitely not a fan of the "stealth" national markings though. White roundels are going to get very confusing when there are multiple foreign operators of the aircraft all with the same roundels!

Oh, and she's an F-35B, because it is the first of a batch of 3 ordered by the MOD for testing. The first was too far along in the build to change when the Govt changed to the F-35C. If I remember rightly the second will also be an F-35B, but the third should be an F-35C, but I'm happy to be corrected if someone has better info.

Spitfire Mk XVIE LF

Hello BM Modellers.
My name is Marcin Witkowski and I came from Poland. My Friend Marek pushed me to register in this fine forum to show You my Spitfire model.

Few words about this miniature to take some light on its history.
For last two years (including breaks) I’m building an model which was started some 15 years ago. I was looking then for simple OOB project to show my young students how to build plastic kits. Model wasn’t finish at the end of the class besides major shape of the aircraft. In this stage it was storage in box until my friends encouraged me to finish it two years back. I took challenge but I didn’t want to take to much effort with the cockpit for example or undercarriage. That’s why my Spit will be finished on stick and with the pilot figure inside.
I’m showing my work on www.modelarstworedukcyjne.pl, one of the finest modelbuilding sites in polish internet. Take a look on articles. Some of them are written also in English.

Ok, some pictures

After taking unfinished model from box I decided to reshape the engine top cover. Very characteristic for MkIX/MkXVI. I used Gunze Epoxy.

I applied a new shape of armoured part of fuselage skin over main fuel tank. It’s copper plate 0,06mm thin

Wing fillets also required to better shape. I’ve made it using plastic plate, CA glue and some putty.

New shape was applied on air intake and as you can see at this stage I also take care on the panel lines which were rised in Heller kit.

I could’t wait to take work on details, so long before main body was finished I made some extras as cannon fairings and gun muzzles or engine axhaust pipes. Cannon and gun details was made in turning process on a dremel tool. The fish-tail pipe I filled using copper flat bar and thin plate. This is an prototype to cast in resin.

That’s all for start. I’ll post soon some more photos. You can also take a look for linked site above to find a topic with my Spitfire.

Chaps,

Has anyone out there attempted to convert a 1-72nd Avro 504K into a 1914 period 504A, as used on the November 1914 Friedrichshafen raid?

Was there a great deal of difference between the 504A & 504K? The only visual difference seems to be the engine & cowling, but please correct me
if I've missed something.

I would appreciate your opinions on how to best create the semi-enclosed engine cowling of this particular aircraft.

Once again, my thanks everyone.

Tim

Eve all.

I've decided to start another build while I wait for some bits for my Oscar and fancied the look of this, mainly as I have all the right-(ish) colours for it!

There happens to be some MDF left over from the last dio' so I might just do a smaller, simpler dio.
If I do end up 'dio-ing' it I fancy something along the lines of it having a new engine fitted, I really don't feel like chopping the kit up so would probably display the engine having just been delivered, either on a trolley or maybe hanging on a block and tackle arrangement ready to be fitted, we shall see what happens along the way!

Quick obligatory box shot:-

While that takes shape so is a new space with the potential for more than just the storage of the wife's shoes, dresses and quarter ton of make-up:-

I put a decent wooden loft ladder in a while ago but never got round to fitting the boarding so I've been cracking on while work is intermittant!
Also found a leak that's been there since we moved in some ten years ago which has started to rot the nearest joist...bugger ! Although the wife has suggested we get a Velux loft window fitted were the damage is which is what has spaked me thinking I could at least use part of the area to make a reasonable spray booth! My birthday is looming and the wife has hinted at an airbrush, (well, I did ) so might be some decent finishes coming from me in the near future, possibly something mottled !!

Si.
