G'day, after being made redundant back in 2002 from a job after 25 years I did a forklift course, as an iron in the fire of future employment. I was given a booklet with all the rules and a-question-and-answer sheet to do. Six hours worth. One of the questions was (from memory) "Can you increase the vertical reach of a forklift by using ladders etc on the platform being lifted by the forklift's tines?" or words to that effect. The question, one of about thirty, was marked with an indicator that meant I had to find the question in the book and write the answer verbatim - "You cannot increase the vertical reach of a forklift by placing ladders and such on the platform being lifted by the forklift's tines" (or such).
Why couldn't I have simply answered "NO" ? I guess it was to make the point stick in my mind. Which it obviously did. 🙂 BTW, a few months later I got a job as a school cleaner, which I held until retirement 19 years later. I never used my forklift licence. 😒 Oh well . . .
Regards, Jeff.
