Popular Post Putty Animal Posted September 25, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 25, 2022 This is my Airco DH.2 scratchbuilt in 1/144 scale, which I have been working on for the best part of the year. A strange thing happened during the last covid lockdown, and I received an opportunity to put together a book on scratchbuilding in 1/144 with an emphasis on WW1 aircraft. 🤯 The DH.2 is one of my all-time favourite British aircraft. Not wanting to let the side down, I've been doing my best to make a good job of it. It's been a bit of a learning process and I have a few quibbles. But all things considered, it worked out pretty well. An RFC Nieuport is next! 🤞 76 13
Orso Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I will not go for the old joke about gigantic matches. This is the most impressive build I have seen for a long time. Even with the match and coin it is hard to understand how small it is. Great work. Looking forward to see the Nieuport coming. 2
VMA131Marine Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 That is just a beautiful model! I would struggle to incorporate that much detail in 1/32 scale, let alone 1/144. You 3-D printed a giant penny, didn’t you…😉 3
Bandsaw Steve Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Brilliant! Any details on the book? I’d be interested in a copy. 2
Farmer matt Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Evev if I had the patience to do that rigging, in any scale, my eyes and definitely my thumbs would not allow it. In 1:144 you are acheiving miracles. Does the book come with a magnifying glass? Seriously, would be very interested in a copy. Matt 1
Ray S Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 That is an excellent result, and a very nice touch using a 1916 penny to show the scale. Ray 1
Bullbasket Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I usually just scroll through the aircraft section, and leave a "like" at the end, but every now and then, a model just jumps out at you as amazing. If this was a kit, it would be brilliant, if it was a larger scale, it would be brilliant, but 1/144th, and scratch built???? That is truly amazing. One of the best aircraft that I've seen on here. Very well done. John. 2 1
MacW Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 And that is the net-spot (Britmodeller.com, I mean), where I can watch the outstanding masterpieces of the people, I can write about with capital letters: The Model Creators. Mr Putty Animal, it must be pleasing to have admirerers around the globe! Your DH.2 is... well... the one and only. Keep showing us more, we're patient, we'll wait. 1 1
Toryu Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I'm speechless... and unable to produce such a detailed masterpiece even in 1/48! 1
Andrés S. Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 It would be a fabulous paint job if it was just a kit, but being scratchbuilt it is absolutely amazing. Andrés. 1
Zephyr Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Wow, simply amazing! By my calculation the span is 60mm. One could go on and on but... just brilliant...!
Winded Penguin Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 (edited) I was cycling up a mountain in Tenerife a few years ago in a good state of fitness (for me). Going about as fast as I could go, and yet still maintain a good cadence. Then, one by one, I was overtaken by team Sky riders, including the rider who won the Tour de France later in the same year. They weren't passing me in a group. They were individually going at what looked like their simulated race-pace, and so were split up. I was riding at around 8mph on the climb, and they were passing me doing around 15 mph, which felt scarcely conceivable. When I checked later, one of the riders posted on Strava, and had done my 30 minute climb in 17 minutes. As added context, I used to race, and over time I've maintained a certain level of competence. Why am I posting a long and possibly un-interesting cycling reference in a modelling thread? Well, seeing your tiny scratch-built model gives me exactly the same momentous feeling as that day in Tenerife. Being shown a level of mastery of a subject beyond a point I have -or can ever have- access to, is what it feels like. And I'm completely accepting of that. And also full of admiration 👍 Edited September 25, 2022 by Winded Penguin grammar 9

mick b Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Outstanding! You must have a magnifier permanently on your head? Mike 1
