Popular Post Mr. Hudson
Hi there, this ist my new Airfix 1/72 Dornier Do 17 Z-2: Kit and this model: The Do 17 Z has been neglected by manufacturers for many years in 1/72 scale. 2015 Airfix has finally released a modern current kit. Airfix aims at an affordable price and a relatively simple assembly in the kit concept. Nevertheless, the kit contains many detail parts and convinces through an intelligent kit division. F1 + AT - my model - flew in August 1940, in the high phase of the air battle, attacks against England. On August 18, 1940, the aircraft was involved in a low level airraid on the Henley RAF base. Construction: Due to the very consequent design on the computer, the kit is lost in my opinion the personality of a modelor and mold maker. The kit seems to me to be somewhat soulless. For example, the engravings and especially the guns do not convince me completely. But for this, model builders are there, so I tried to breathe life into the model. The kit was completed as follows: - engraving supplementation, especially wings - replace kit flaps as etching parts - new bombbay windows (top) - MG 15 from CMK (did not really convince me too) - engine overhaul - undercarriage overhaul (brake lines and struts) - position lights - various antennas and small parts Finish: The model is painted with Gunze paints in my usual procedure with glazed paint layers. Now see for yourself. Top view: Bottom view: Details: Hope you like this model. Criticism, notes, and comments are gladly welcome. FIGHTS ON
I must have done the original Airfix Dornier back in the late 70's after a visit to the Crab museum at Hendon, Never considered going back to one, but having seen yours, I am really, really tempted However that enthusiasm needs a reality check that most of us (me especially) could never come close to the superb finish that you have delivered here. Outstanding model, impressive and so realistic. Thank you for posting

SoftScience
Nicely done. Your assessment of the kit as soulless interests me. I felt similarly about a few things I have built recently, but couldn't definitively say why.
kapam
Hard to know what to say. It just looks so good! Makes me wonder how much "soul" I've managed to add to my builds. Measured against that Dornier, not near enough I'm guessing.😬
Josip
I had bought this kit last year and I agree with your assesment that it's a bit soulless. Yet it's been calling me a while to start on it. The new ICM kit is actually a bit finer effort in the box with petite surface detail that may dissappear under several layers of paint. However I have seen the Airfix kit in finished form and it looked just right! Airfix seems to have noticeably missed the shape and thickness of props and guns, so I got me some Quickboost replacements. This model only needs thinner MGbarrels, but is otherwise top notch! WildeSau75
Easily one of the best builds of the Do I have seen in 1/72. Love it. Cheers, Michael
Spad
Absolutely beautiful! Love those topsides and all the little extra detail you've added. Could you explain the glazed paint layer technique you mention? Thanks for showing. Rick
