I have a few partially completed kits sitting on the shelf, but I am having a few problems getting up the enthusiasm to finish them off. So I thought I would turn to a very recent arrival in my stash, the second boxing of the new Airfix 1/72 Beaufighter. I enjoyed my first go the first boxing of these back in June ( see here), so I hoped this would help me get my mojo back. I am a bit rusty, so the paintwork is not as good as I would like. I also made a couple of daft mistakes, but still I enjoyed it and feel I am in a better place to start on some more challenging kits. Brush painted with Tamiya Acrylics as per usual. Build thread can be found here. The model was completed straight out of the box with the rather smart grey and black TF10 from 45 Squadron RAF based in Kuala Lumpur in what was then Malaya in 1949. Thanks for looking.

And here it is with the SEAC Beaufighter I made earlier this year.

Looking very nice. I love this early after war cammo scheme. I do not know why you are so hard on yourself, both models are more than correctly finished *special not to more than :)  ) and i would like to have them on my shelves.

Regarding motivation......do not know what is your "show stopper" mine was perfection, if can not be perfect i will not finish them....than i clear with myself that even perfect ones, can be made better...so there are no end in expectations. Just imagine how beautiful they will look in display cabinet...and go for them.

Sorry maybe i put something wrong as my English is not good but i think you will get an idea :)

Best regards Djordje

That's a beautifully finished TF10 you have there Simon and a fantastic pairing at the end. Very well done, I like your style of modelling with the restrained weathering. :Tasty::thumbsup:

A couple of really nice Beaufighters you've got there.

I must admit to having a soft spot for the black and grey Firedog scheme though. Very nicely done.

Both are beautiful and are made with a great respect of the aircraft.

I love the Beaufighters (and am presently building the Tamiya 1/48

"Torbeau" TF Mk X)

I must admit that I prefer the short nose together with the short rudder,

but your two Beaufighters are really outstanding.

A great modelling work. Bravo. Polo.:clap2:

Brush painted with Tamiya acrylics? I admire your courage and skill!

Great result.

Two very nice examples of an aircraft that fits the description Muscular.

Not an aircraft I normally associate with Firedog.

Simon, this Beau looks fan-tas-tic!

I have the same  (or similar) problem: I have about half a dozen kits that are at least 75% finished and I block... As Djos said above, maybe worried they are not going to be good enough? Another few years of counselling should see me through this weird patch! Anyway my virtual shelf is getting crowded.

A question for you, Sir: what is the trick to brush paint Tamiya acrylics? I only dare use them on small areas, and even then, with trepidation... Any word of advice would be more than welcome.

Congrats on your superb model.

Thanks Djordje, I know what you mean :-) not sure why the lack of motivation, probably a combination of work/life etc. achieving perfection is not one of them, as that is well beyond me !

Thanks Jean. I made the switch to Tamiya acrylics years ago, the water clean up being a bit draw card. For me I find it best if the paint is thinned a bit with some isopropyl alcohol, and then applying thin coats without over brushing. And practice :-)

Thanks for all the kind comments :-)

That a very nice pair of Beaus!

The Op Firedog one looks very Brigand-y (if that's word) and that can only be a good thing.

Very nice paintjob on them!

Most attractive paint scheme ever employed by the RAF.  Seen on the Brigand, Mosquito, Lincoln and Canberra.  Does anyone know of any other applications?

Very nice. If I could do half as well as you've done, I'd proudly post them up here, saying how Simon's Beaus inspired my builds.

Nice build and paint job!

As for getting models finished, my grandmothers both had ways of making their grandkids finish a task. My paternal grandma would sit us down, make a lovely cup of tea and let us sit in her kitchen. Made us rather tranquil and then we'd go off and finish whatever it was feeling all warm and content.

My maternal grandmother would take us to the kitchen door, give us a smack across the back of the head and send us off to finish whatever it was (write when you find good works).

You might try either method for motivation.:whip:
