Redroo Models 1/48 CAC CA-25 Winjeel

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

This is the 1/48th Redroo Model CAC Winjeel. The only changes from the kit options are the big number on the cowl and the A number as this is model was to be built as a specific airframe. The orange/red or whatever it is, is a home brew of Gunze H14 Orange with a few drops of Gunze H(33) Russett added to knock it's vibrancy back a notch. There was an audible sigh of relief when I finished it up this morning as it's been a bit of a slog.

For those not familiar with the aircraft. The Winjeel was developed by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation as a Basic Trainer for the Royal Australian Air Force. It operated with 1 Basic Flying Training School at Uranqunity near Wagga. Most of it's service life was spent here however several airframes were transferred to 4 Squadron at Williamtown where they operated in the FAC role until 1995.

Several aircraft still fly in private ownership.

The Winjeel name is an indigenous word meaning "Young Eagle"

A few modelling goals ticked off here in the way of resin a vac canopies, neither of which I'm a fan.

Cheers,

Mick

Just seen this on FB and it looks even better with that larger photos on BM. Honestly Mick, that's the sweetest little thing I've seen in a long time. You've absolutely perfected this very impressive Winjeel build. Lovely Stuff!

Cheers and well modelled.. Dave

Oh Mick, that's absolutely gorgeous! I can't fault it and now I want one even more. Congratulations on a beautiful model!

I've only ever seen one Winjeel in person. Guess which one it was?

That's the one!!! Awesome to see the real thing. The guy I built it for specified the airframe as I think he's either done some flying in it or some air2air photography with it. Although he wanted it without the civil rego .

There are a few small thing I can change going by those photos too.

Nice snaps BTW.

Fantastic build & the orange you made is spot on. Really great job

Thanks @Volksjager. My dad worked on them when he was doing the his apprenticeship with the RAAF. He said the colour was pretty good too. I was happy to hear that I got close!

I like that. A lot. Obviously I’ve never seen one in real life (wrong part of the planet!) but would build one 👍

Hi Andy. It was given to me as a commission build for a mate at work. He originally purchased it from Redroo Models here in Australia but Planet Models have re-boxed the kit in their line. I've just checked and Hannants have the kit in stock.

I'm sorry to say that's all I have but I think given it's one of the few(?) to wear Fanta Can there should be a fair amount of photos online to use as reference. I was very excited to see it as at that time (2010) we had two in NZ and I'd seen neither before. And thank you for the kind words! I hope the flying shot can be of some use.
