  1. Nice job there Russ. You may wish to amend your spelling in the title heading......no r in Bougainville. πŸ‘ There is actually an A6M3 Zero on a pole and a Type 89B Otsu Yi-Go Japanese tank at Kieta war memorial on the eastern side of Bougainville. I saw it when I was there in 1998.
  2. Paint......sheesh!!πŸ€”πŸ€ͺ This is one of the things that can stall me on a build for a decade!!!!
  3. Well there you go........ same colour as the superstucture NARN 22 - G45. Thanks for that.
  4. Thanks Jamie, I think I will go with grey. If it wasn't grey back in the day, I'm happy to be corrected. After looking at those pics again for the 100th time, the turret tops wouldn't be the hull colour....???
  5. Thanks All, I should of said late 1945 in Sydney and Melbourne. From what I can gather all main and secondary gun turrets/barrels are painted G45......but was the top of the main turrets painted in G45 or where they a deck grey colour?
  6. Where the tops of the gun turrets painted dark grey when she wore the late 1945 paint scheme?
  7. Thanks All for your input. As I am exclusively a hairy stick painter I shall try and match some Humbrol paints. (I prefer enamel's) and they are readily available to buy. Cheers, Devo
  8. Another question regarding paints. Getting the right paints made by Colourcoats is near on impossible in my part of the world. I only know of one shop in Australia to buy them them from and he is out of stock for what I need. As I have my kit (after a decade of procrastinating over buying it), I dont want to wait x amount of time waiting on getting Colourcoats paint. What Humbrol or Tamiya equivalents can I use for NARN 22 G-45, NARN 36 B-20 and Majors Anti-fouling Grey?? Thanks All, Devo
  9. Thanks for your response's fella's.πŸ‘ I wasn't sure if a Pontos deck was better than an Artwox deck was better than another brand etc etc and vice a versa.πŸ€”
  10. G'day all, A couple of questions. Which wooden deck is the right one to buy for the Tamiya kit? I'm doing her in late 1945, with the non standard paint scheme applied in Australia. I'm going OOB for the rest of the build. Never used a wooden deck before. Do I need to remove any of the kits detail before applying the wooden deck? Cheers, Devo
  11. Nice job JJ.πŸ‘ I served in that ship 1991-92. Some good times for sure. I also served in FFG 03 Sydney (first sea posting) and FFG 05 Melbourne. Feel like building 3 more for me? I have tried to build those three (FFG 03, 04, 05) myself over the years.......... but for some reason I cannot for the life of me get them completed.πŸ€”
  12. Nice collection of Tomcatter aircraft. You need to a VF-31 F3H Demon to go with them now. It would nicely show who the daddy was of the Phantom!
  13. Go the Fender Player Tele. I have a 2018 model (currently in open G tuning, with the low E string taken off ala Keef style!) Had zero problems with mine. ✌️🀘 Doh!! Too late I see Enjoy the EVH.
  14. Awesomely brush painted....and yellow! Well done that man. Hairy sticker's rule.
  15. And the possibilities are that it didn't work for what it was intended to do.....no amount of positive thinking will change that!!
  16. 🀣🀣.....I'm not surprised. SH-2G, MRH-90, Tiger, expensive crap decision making from the get go by people above my pay grade. I remember (just), aircrew and maintainers talking about why don't we (ADF) get more Seahawk/Blackhawk variants with dipping sonar(really...sonar.....not just sonar buoys...wow thats new isn't it....πŸ€£πŸ˜‚....ASW, ASuW....gee what a concept for Naval aircraftπŸ€ͺ) and whoosh bangs and proper door guns etc etc........ more chooks and Apaches for the Pongo's instead of any of the Eurocrapters...... Oh well at least the Navy guys got a good jolly to France out of it. I guess we are only the end-user's....what do we know? Please note that my sarcasm meter is turned up to 11.
  17. I just used White King domestic liquid bleach to remove the chrome from 4 Revell 1/24 VW hubcaps. Worked in minutes, no drama's. Cheers, Devo
  18. Brian, Just a thought. Tamiya XF-12 Japanese Navy grey might work on a small scale DDG. It has a distinct green to it that our ships used to have and was really apparent went berthed near a USN or RN ship. I remember a Yank asking me once why our ship was painted green and not grey. Cheers, Devo
  19. G'day mate, Who new the proper names were N42 storm grey for the hull an uppers and N63 pewter for the decks?? ( I didn't......) When I was in (1983-2006) we called it ships side grey and deck grey. The "Steel Cat" DDG 41 was in these colours. The only ones not in these colours were obviously the O boats and Cook amd Moresby (white Navy πŸ€ͺ). I think SMS make a storm grey and a pewter(deck grey) Apparently if you go to the paint section at Bunnings, they can mix up N42 and N63. I'm sure others will chime in. 🍻 Devo (FFG 03, 04, 05, DDG 41, LSH 50)
