Popular Post Crimea River
The 1/48 Tamiya Fieseler Storch was a kit that I had avoided due to its price until I managed to pick one up at an estate sale fro a good price. Having now built it, I'd say that I would not regret paying the full price. Superb engineering and ingenious use of materials made this a fun and rewarding build indeed. The subject of the build is Storch SF+RL, a uniquely camouflaged plane used by 1./Wüstennotstaffel in the desert war, the one that adorns Tamiya's box. As a reference for the build, I got myself a copy of the the two part e-article by Air Publications which is a very interesting read. https://airwarpublications.com/earticles/unit-history-earticles/ It's evident, after reading the article, that Tamiya have misrepresented the camouflage scheme on their box art and paint instructions. Tamiya would like us to paint the aircraft with sand coloured uppers and then disrupt it with a light blue wave pattern. However, the authors of the AirWar publication state, more convincingly, that the Wellenmuster was in fact a disruptive pattern of RLM 79 Sandgelb over the standard continental 70/71/65 scheme. It makes much more sense to me that the latter would be the case as the standard desert scheme would have seen no benefit of being lightened with a blue wave pattern whereas the dark European scheme would have been very conspicuous against the desert sand without being toned down. As a result, I went with that scheme. Paints are all Tamiya applied with an Iwata HP-C Plus. Thanks for looking. roginoz
I've built this great kit and can attest to the OP's [great nom de web, incidentally !] praise for the engineering and design of the model. I wasn't game enough to attempt this disruptive scheme which looks stunning, no, I took the easy route and, using the great Skyraider decal sheets, dressed my model in the livery of 83 Gp, 2nd TAF, the personal aircraft of AVM Harry Broadhurst. There's another lurking in the stash awaiting my attention, and this beautifully presented example has given me inspiration to make a start on it. Reini78
Great airbrush squiggle work! Did you draw it on the model with a pencil, pen ore something else first to have a template and then with airbrush? Or did you jump right into cold water and did it only with airbrush? Mark Harmsworth
Wonderful airbrushing skills to do that. I am really impressed and ever so slightly envious. I tend to steer clear of these schemes as I know how they'd look if I attempted it. Lovely stuff. Mark

Crimea River
Thanks everyone! 6 hours ago, Reini78 said: Great airbrush squiggle work! The wave pattern was done free hand with no templates or pencil guides. Truth be told, it was done twice as I wasn't happy with the initial try, the waves being a bit too heavy. 3 hours ago, kiwitrogg said: Whoa ! Your paintwork is a work of art ! Step one is always to try it and accept that practice will improve the look. As I said above I sprayed over the first attempt before settling on what you see here. Appreciate the comments everyone, thanks.
