Cheers Mark, operational jets during the WW2, before VE or VJ days qualify, post-war schemes unfortunately not. I wonder if there was any twin jets in the PTO at all, which would mean the cut-off date is 8.5.45 for the propless beasts. V-P

The meteor was ultra top secret and wasn’t allowed into German airspace in the European theatre and I don’t think flew anywhere else until after VJ Day. theplasticsurgeon
As I've just started a Matchbox Havoc, here are my previous builds of that kit. First a UK based USAAF, that took part in D-Day. Next an RAF aircgaft. Finally the one that I have the kit for, a Pacific raider, which I'll be building. This model has lost a propeller, so a timely replacement.

V-P Japanese had the Nakajima Kikka, but it had it's first test flight on August 7th, 1945 and only flew once(can't fathom why?) I was going to put one in the inspiration Gallery until remembered when It first flew. Same would be for the American P-59. It was still in the test phase at the end of the war. Another one I wanted to add. But C'est la Guerre.
theplasticsurgeon
I've just started a P-38 Lighting thread, so here are my previous Forked-Tail Devils. An ancient Airfix P-38J, built 1987. Newer Airfix model, completed as a P-322 Castrated Lightning in 2005. Hasegawa P-38J, built 2005. Matchbox, built 2005. Dragon P-38M, built 2007. This built was no trouble at all. Revell, built as an F-5B photo-Lightning in 2012. Dragon P-38L Pathfinder, built 2015. This build really confirmed the expression DragonFit! Hasegawa P-38J, built 2022. and finally and RS, completed as an F-4A in 2022. This one put up an epic fight!

It nearly flew twice. The second flight was with RATO gear fitted. The RATO units were far too powerful and caused the aircraft to strike its tail on the runway when they fired. The pilot aborted takeoff but the aircraft ran off the end of the runway into a drainage ditch, severely damaging the undercarriage.
TonyW
More vault raiding... A FROG Penguin Dornier dating from WW2. Not the most accurate Dornier but not a bad effort by FROG considering we were fighting the Germans at the time. References were a bit thin on the ground. I restored this one from a scruffy original years ago. Most of the work required was straightening up the terrible warping these old models suffer from. The paints used were all period oil based but still usable. Transfers were all old stock and the cammo pattern was copied from an early forties Flight photo. From the Heller GB, a pair of French AF twins, The Airfix SM79

RC Boater Bill
For no particular reason, I just haven’t done WW2 twins much in the last 23 years, after picking up the hobby again in earnest. The Academy PBY-5 Catalina is from 2003, and was my first ever “build article” for a website…. (https://modelingmadness.com/review/allies/us/michaelspby.htm) I think it also my most recent WW2 twin, as the C-45 and C-47 I’ve done since were in postwar markings…and the Widgeon is in pre-war colors…. I do have multiple eligible twins in the stash now — I had 12 to pick from! (Went with the new Airfix B-25B Mitchell.) Thom216
Here's a little inspiration for someone who wouldn't mind a little scratch building. I was looking at pics of the Me-410 when I came across this pic of a twin-tail Me-210 V0 prototype. And the V1 with enlarged rudders before going to the single tail unit. https://airpages.ru/eng/lw/me210.shtml#google_vignette Edited January 10 by Thom216

Adam Poultney
My classic Airfix Do17F for inspiration For its age, it's a fantastic kit and builds into a convinving model of the early Do17. It's an easier starting point than the RS kit in my stash... hoping this makes an appearance in Airfix's vintage range.
