Dansk Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) Not sure if this has been done before? A group build of anything that is powered by the Legendary Rolls Royce Merlin, (or license-built Merlin by Packard, or the land based Meteor variant). so production-wise wikipedia tells me that’s… Packard: Avro Lancaster B.III/B.X Bell XP-63 Kingcobra Curtiss P-40F/L/Kittyhawk Mk.II Curtiss P-60 de Havilland Mosquito B.VII/B.25 Hawker Hurricane Mk.X, XI, XII North American P-51 Mustang North American F-82 Twin Mustang Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI Rolls Royce: Armstrong Whitworth Whitley Avro Athena Avro Lancaster Avro Lancastrian Avro Lincoln Avro Manchester III Avro Tudor Avro York Boulton Paul Balliol and Sea Balliol Boulton Paul Defiant Bristol Beaufighter II CAC CA-18 Mark 23 Mustang Canadair North Star CASA 2.111B and D Cierva Air Horse de Havilland Mosquito de Havilland Hornet Fairey Barracuda Fairey Battle Fairey Fulmar Fairey P.4/34 Fiat G.59 Handley Page Halifax Handley Page Halton Hawker Hart (Test bed) Hawker Henley Hawker Horsley (Test bed) Hawker Hotspur Hawker Hurricane and Sea Hurricane Hispano Aviación HA-1112 I.Ae. 30 Ñancú Miles M.20 North American Mustang Mk X Renard R.38 Short Sturgeon Supermarine Type 322 Supermarine Seafire Supermarine Spitfire Tsunami Racer Vickers F.7/41 Vickers Wellington Mk II and Mk VI Vickers Windsor Westland Welkin and the meteor: Cromwell Challenger Avenger, Comet Centurion Charioteer Tortoise experimental assault tank. Caernarvon, Conqueror tank (and of course any real life application not listed above - if someone has a merlin shoehorned into a car chassis sure, if it exists) (but no whatifs) you can also choose to build a model of just the powerplant itself. What’s not to love about that lot?! 😎 any takers for this one? 1 @Dansk 2 @Colin W 3 @PhantomBigStu 4 @Bonhoff 5 @Black Knight 6 @TEMPESTMK5 7 @vppelt68 8 @zebra 9 @2996 Victor 10 @franky boy 11 @Andwil 12 @theplasticsurgeon 13 @Marklo 14 @TonyOD 15 @Corsairfoxfouruncle 16 @stevehnz 17 @Jabba Edited September 22, 2021 by Dansk 2
Colin W Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Sounds tempting. Put me up as your first supporter 1
PhantomBigStu Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Probably on a hiding to nothing with this one….. 1
Bonhoff Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 How about adding the Meteor tank engine into the mix as well? IanJ 1
TEMPESTMK5 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Good morning Paul Interesting idea please add my name to the list .. Best regards Patrice 1
vppelt68 Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 +1! V-P Edit: An Academy P-51B/C is my most likely subject. I have two of them. 1
2996 Victor Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Hi Paul, I'd like to sign up for this one, please! I've got a few possibles in my stash Cheers, Mark 1
franky boy Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Great idea Paul Please add me to the list. James 1
Andwil Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Seems an obvious choice for a group build, count me in! AW 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Yes please, Revell Wellington II. I've just vouched a Airfix 1/48 Hurricane to Aces High GB. Also Maverick's Mustang with its Packard Merlin in my stash. 3

Marklo Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 I have a Tamiya Cromwell in the stash which would have been meteor powered. Ironically the only Spitfire I have is a griffin of engined one. But I’m sure a suitable airplane could be acquired. So count me in. 1

Plenty of time to build up our dwindling stashes if this gets to and goes through the bunfight 🤣 👍 it was a great idea with the meteor engine. Really opens it up to an all round gb for non-aircraft types. Edited September 21, 2021 by Dansk 2

TonyOD Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Big yes on this one! Saw the title and thought “ok, Spits and Lancs” (cos I know nothing about planes) but so many options! 1

Hopefully it makes it to the bunfight. 1
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 As Ive inherited approximately 25-30 spit/seafires it would be downright rude not to build something here. 1

stevehnz Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Yup, I reckon so. Not that I haven't got lots of Merlin engined thingies, & a couple of Meteor ones too but would RR V12s, which afaik would only extend it to the Kestrel, Peregrine & Griffon, be too far from your original concept. It might appeal to a few more. Just a thought. Steve. 1
Jabba Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I have somethings that may fit the bill, so add my name to the list please. 1

Rob G Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 Not joining the GB, but I have seen this. It's impressive.... https://www.abc.net.au/local/photos/2015/08/19/4296075.htm 1
