Decided to finally ditch one of my original paint racks that is obsolete and get another for the standard 26mm paint that I use way more of now. Also decided to try some Ak white paint to see how it brushes on with a mind to eventually doing an Airfix valiant

I've been wanting a Hakko (pronounced Hokko, BTW) soldering iron cleaner for a good while, but no one local ever seemed to have them. I was at HobbyTown yesterday and spotted one on the rack. It was instantly in my hand! 🙂

https://www.hobbytown.com/hakko-soldering-iron-tip-brass-curls-cleaner-hak599b-p/p27002

The stock status reads "Currently out of stock". Gee, I wonder why?

Restocked on some paints today as well as getting a revell sea vixen, also decided to try a Mig ammo for curoristy, wish I hadn’t, nothing like the green it was meant to be or indeed anything else, 3 quid gone for a yet another generic green….

Latest gift to self are 4 books on wooden ship modelling, now I am really starting to get worried, I can see 1.3 metres of HMS Agamemnon being shoehorned into my cave but I need to bring it into the 21st century and make it stealthy, Gert won't see it then....😂

I use a generic coiled brass cleaner. To be sure, I understand their soldering equipment is top-drawer, but what is special about such this?

BTW, I find the Pinecil to be quite an effective tool. While it's small size and flexibility make it my current goto iron, one of my motivations was USB-C PD. I have such a power supply in my RV for laptops and devices. And who doesn't like that this is also a hacker's delight?

At a small local modeling show I picked up , for under a 5iver, Mirage Hobby 1/400th kit of a gunboat Mazur. Not my normal fare but it might just help me back to modelling. I had a long time thought about building a ship and this one might be the one. Its quite small but the kit seems to lack any colour notes. Can anyone help please?

Miniature maritime mayhem ahoy!

Slim but well-illustrated volume relating to the class my grandfather served on. Of course I've got an escort carrier in my stash. 😁

WEM etch sets for Malaya, Nelson and Repulse, via Starling Models. Excellent rapid service. 👍

As Mrs T has her good deeds day on a Thursday, and has the car, I took myself over to Halifax, which isn't bad and cheap for me as an older person. A worthwhile trip as I bought some paints etc, and picked up my pre-ordered Special Hobby Meteor TT20 and joined the Dora Wings Fairey FD2 owners club. Even gghe weather was decent.

A couple of days ago now, came in stealth mode 'cause I met the courier as I was going out. :) A ICM Do 215B-4 kit, destined to become a B-1 & finished with a big Wasp on its nose from the Owl decals I picked up a year or so ago.

My latest purchase from Ukraine (Plastic Model Store) which arrived this week. CAT4 conversion sets and decals in 1/48 to build the ill-fated F-111B Navy interceptor. I want to build one of the last two prototypes (152714/152715) which featured a longer nose cone and when CAT4 released sets intended for the HB kit and had a sale I hit the purchase button. I already have an HB FB-111 with some other goodies (Reskit cockpit module and exhausts, Eduard AIM-54A), earmarked for this conversion.

As these sets are intended for the earlier prototypes I will not need all parts and have to scratchbuild the nose. One needs to modify the wheels too as CAT4 has no set for them (yet) (front wheels are the same as for the F-14 and the main wheels are smaller than for all other F-111 variants).

And today some new sanding sticks to replace my worn ones. While basically the same, these nail polish sticks are much cheaper than 'dedicated' sanding sticks for modelling 😆

Cheers

Markus

From DEK Ls, ‘Aussie Chooks in Camouflage’ a decal sheet for RAAF CH-47Cs which I’ll keep for the 1/72 Airfix release this year.

Also, ‘Tuns of Tunnans’ which I’ll use with the 1/72 Tarangus Tunnan, as I wasn’t particularly inspired by any of the schemes it came with.

Hi Simon,

Who is your supplier for these products, please? I may need to place an order of the same supplies.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Markus,

Nice stuff! Say, are you planning on starting up a build thread for this conversion anytime soon here on BM?

Let's hope so.

Cheers,

Igna

The shot glasses are available from Amazon, quite cheap as well. I use medicine pots l, they are more like a hard polythene than plastic, and have a scale on the side, as they were used for liquids. I bought two lots of hundred from Ed Models a long while ago and still on the first pack. Because I use acrylics, they get washed out for re use.

Don't hang your hopes high. My builds usually progress at a glacial pace and I'm glad if I finish a model this year at all. At least I will not get bored once retired 🤣

From Key Publishing

Aviation Archive Subscription Renewal – six issues per year , saves £2.83 per issue on current cover price , for quite a while the series has been impossible to find on sale locally.

Bristol Aircraft (Aviation Archive No.72) bookazine , first subscription issue from the latest renewal covering the history of the company with 5 archive cutaway drawings and 12 specially commissioned colour side-view profiles.

From The Aviation And Military Book Centre

The Junkers Ju 88 Part.1 - V1 to A-17 plus B-series (Airframe & Miniature No.23) book , by Richard A. Franks , latest release by Valiant Wings in their usual format with history , images - full aircraft and detail , variant detail drawings , colour profiles , technical drawings , 1/48 plans, kit comparisons etc.       Oddly when looking around for the best price/shipping was surprised to see that my usual first stop at the great muddy river of commerce was charging twice RRP for the book.

Via Amazon (various sellers)

Liked the Marines In Vietnam volume from the G.I.: The Illustrated History of the American Soldier, His Uniform & His Equipment series that I bought last week so sought out some others from the series , three out the four were new and each cost pennies either side of £4 including shipping where applicable with some being the original Greenhill printing and others the more recent Pen & Sword reprint with a very slightly larger page size.

US Airborne Forces of the Cold War book , by Leroy Thompson , published 2003 by Greenhill Books.

US Army Today : From The End Of The Cold War Until Present Day book , by Christopher J Anderson , published 1997 by Greenhill Books.

Hell On Wheels : The Men Of The US Armoured Forces 1918 Until The End Of The 20th. Century book , reprint 2016 by Pen & Sword.

Distant Thunder : The US Artillery From The Spanish-American War Until The Present book , published 2001 by Greenhill Books.

From Bookworld

Convair F-102 Delta Dagger (Modellers Airguide 11) book , by Andy Evans , published 2024 by Phoenix Publications , usual format with history , images of in service aircraft and preserved aircraft detail shots but no captions , model features with brief text of a 1/48 Revell Monogram kit with scratch-built detail and how to apply camouflage to a 1/72 Meng kit , with the final item having the only image captions included in the publication.

From Hannants

Quickboost 48537 1/48 A-1H/A-1J Skyraider Pylon Set resin , two sets intended for use with the Tamiya kits.

I popped over to the Range this morning to seek a few bits with Mum and while I was there I noticed this.

DSCN4598

I have looking for a Satin Varnish and struck lucky.

Also picked up a 3 drawer caddy for a reasonable price.

DSCN4599

That now stores Shot Glasses, Pipettes and bottles of Thinners.

Happy bunny Simon.

Finally managed to get a copy of this courtesy of a secondhand book seller in Norwich via Amazon, a mere 18 years after it's publication!

First time finding a stash at a second hand shop, They weren't "free" but they cost me close to half of local retail.

There were about 40 kits all up all 48th WW2 all Tamiya, Eduard, Hasegawa, Accurate Miniature reboxings, and many were 2023 releases.

Quite a result Phas3e, some nice additions to the stash.
