PhantomBigStu
actually ended up really confused seems RAF/RAAF Mustangs are mindfield and I need some help, is there actually any way of telling whether a particular aircraft is in the ANA paints or RAF paints? Found out I think Ive done previous mustangs wrong in the ANA and trying to find one that is it as such to do this time (and repaint the wrong one this time) edit: internet says the us paints are darker and found a IV that looks much darker than raf paints look so that's one sorted edit2: and it turns out I really confused myself, the one I thought was wrong I had actually painted it in the correct RAF paints.....lol and it looks like early mustangs I's and II's were only grey very briefly so I shall do one of them in RAF paints. vppelt68
I never thought I'd look for a Britmodeller how-to thread for puttying P-51 wings. But I did. Then I marked it accordingly on a set of Airfix 1:72 wings - molded in the old plastic - and thought that might be doable even by me . Actually not very long strips of panel lines to fill in these kits. V-P
PhantomBigStu
Am imagining this or is this an aeroproducts prop on what is described on the back of the photo as p-51D also for anyone building nooky booky iv out of the TAMIYA kit they have the prop wrong, it’s a K with the aero prop
Graham Boak
Looks like the Aeroproductas prop of the K, but could it be the cuffless Hamilton Standard?

Bedders
What’s the best thing for NMF these days? I’ve been using Alclad over the last few years but I’d like to find a less smelly and more user-friendly alternative. Any thoughts? Justin

Justin Ive been using the newer Tamiya LP lacquer paints and the silver/aluminum colors work great and dry fast for me. https://www.tamiyausa.com/media/files/lp-color-compatibility-chart-521-1238-177a.pdf I personally use LP-11, LP-38, & LP-72. But LP-48 also looks good as well. I use there LP-1 gloss black for a base.

Justin Thinkkng to try foil, but if that fails or I’m too lazy I intend to use Vallejo metallic colours. Tried alclad once, but it was too smelly for me (or rather for my better half). The wings are aluminium mixed with grey for a dull look, but the fuselage is pure silver and aluminium, which is shiny enough for me:
Enzo the Magnificent
On 05/03/2024 at 07:21, Bedders said: What’s the best thing for NMF these days? I use car paints from a rattle can. A company called Autotek does numerous colours which work well for me. There are Aluminium, Silver Wheel and Steel Wheel. Silver Wheel works well for dark aluminium areas as long as it is misted on carefully. Steel Wheel is good for jetpipes and exhausts. For detail areas I also use Lifecolor Perfect Metal colours. The Lifecolor acrylics are not smelly. The rattle cans definitely are, but I stand outside the back door in the garden to spray them.
Enzo the Magnificent
27 minutes ago, Enzo the Magnificent said: I use car paints from a rattle can. A follow up... I never use metallic car paints. The metallic sheen is created by minuscule flakes in the paint. However, when you scale these flakes up they end up the size of dinner plates! 😮 I use the Alloy Wheel paint a lot as it is really good for interior areas like gear bays and intakes.

I have thought about it, hopefully it will get me out of my loss of mojo. A nice shiny P-51D might do the trick. How about the Hasegawa 1/48th kit? But not in these markings, I fancy an Angels Playmate.
