GordonD Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-19381098 LOS, Neil. We'll see you on the other side.
HammerUK9 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I've been meaning to for some time, but I definitely need to get RealSpaceModel's 1/48 CSM now and get back into the space stuff. To remember what and who have gone before.
stevesig Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 RIP Neil First Man to step on the surface of another world! In my book the greatest Human achievement of all time.
DaveJL Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Awfully sad. A true history maker. Rest in peace.
hacker Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 fighter pilot then test pilot then to go on to the greatest adventure anyone can imagine. Truly one of the great Reluctant hero of our generation has ever seen and never will see the like of again. RIP Mr Armstrong you lived a good life, one most of us can only dream of.
Miggers Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Blue skies forever Sir. You and Buzz really showed the world. A fantastic achievement that certainly captivated this(at the time)nine year old boy. Many thanks and Godspeed.
Sundowner14 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Before long, there won't be anyone left alive who's left Earth and stepped foot on another surface. RIP Neil Alden Armstrong. Reluctant hero you may have been, but you surely had the right stuff.
macgregor Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 RIP one of my childhood heroes. Trevor 2nd that! RIIP Mac
chaddy Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Sad and unexpected news. It makes one stop and ponder when the heroes of one's youth are suddenly no longer with us. RIP.
paul178 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I was 24 and remember it like yesterday watching it on TV. "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” RIP Spaceman.
HL-10 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I read his biography. What an outstanding man. What a sad day. Rest in peace, and iin Tranquility.
Paul Bradley Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Very sad news, indeed. As someone who grew up with the space programme, though just too young to remember that mission, it is a very sad day. He was just here in town for a charity dinner last month, perhaps his last public engagement and apparently was very good value. RIP
hacker Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 l was 8 when the family sat and watch it on the old B&W on the farm. It is ingrained in my mind until this day. Personal childhood hero here. This kinda makes one feel old when famous people you grew up with are dying off one by one.
rmcclure Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 How very, very sad but let's remember his remarkable achievements. A true hero whose story has amazed me for the past 43 years.
Abacus Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 A real life legend. God I remember being riveted to those live broadcasts, some at strange times of the day. Was it Peter Fairley that commentated? A life well lived Mr Armstrong. RIP
prowler0000 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Not many people can claim to be the "1st" at anything: He was without doubt our greatest 1st! A humble man who never sought fame and just wanted to to the best he could, & who went on to be a legend. Godspeed, Mr Armstrong. I hope we can live up to what you the other Apollo boys started.....
Dermo245 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I was 1! My birthday was the day Apollo 11 took off. I still have my Dad's atlas which had a map of the moon - on it, my Dad wrote "Tranquillity Base" in advance of the landing. My family tell me that Dad had us all up to watch it happen, to witness history. Fighter pilot. Test pilot. Lunar Module pilot. Absolute legend. Godspeed Neil Armstrong.
Ossian Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 And so he takes his final giant leap.... God Speed, Neil R I P
Anthony Kesterton Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 A man who lived a great life, did amazing things and was always very humble about it. He made the human race proud. Time to return to the moon and go beyond.
