Finished Photos of 1/1000 Scale Metal Skeleton Graf Zeppelin (LZ127) Airship Kit

Recommended Posts

Fellow Modelers,

Below are construction and finished photos of Aerobase’s 1/1000 scale metal skeleton Graf Zeppelin (LZ127) Airship kit.  My son got this for me as a present this past Christmas and I decided to go ahead and knock it out.  I spent about eight hours building it over a three day period.  All the parts went together extremely well and the engineering is first rate.  The only tools required were metal clippers, tweezers, sandpaper and a little Superglue.  I will say some experience working with photo-etch is a must.  The overall length is 9”.  It built into a really intricate and cool looking display.  Enjoy the photos!

That is very cool!

I just now looked up AeroBase Models and see they have a number of similar offerings. I’m especially tempted by their 1/160 scale Taube (wingspan a mere 3.5 in)

Pete in Lincs/dnl42/russ c/Modelling Masochist/SAT69/billn53/bigbadbadge-Thanks very much for the great compliments!

billn53-Yes, Aerobase offers a wide range of metal skeleton products.  The fit up of the kit I worked on was unbelievably good.  I think this product is superior to the Metal Earth bend-and-fold kits commonly sold at hobby and craft stores.  You just have to have some good metal clippers and be comfortable with photo-etch.

This is a true master of lace work.

Without any use of putty is completely beyond my capabilities... Congrats!  :)

I‘m not timid when it comes to photoetch but this is far beyond my abilities. You must have extraordinarily steady fingers!

Rob-If I have told you once I have told you a hundred times, the correct battle cry is WAR EAGLE and NOT roll tide!😁

I think just a little more than "some experience" with photo etch is needed to complete this kit.  You hand and patience with superglue is far better than mine in building this extraordinary model.  Just excellent.  Thanks for sharing.
