Mike Dean Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Thanks for that link to the Superfly build. There's no such thing as too much chrome! As Alan Whicker would say, "Love it or hate it, you can't ignore it"! 1
cmatthewbacon Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Popped into the middle of Lidl and picked up the Revell 911G coupe for £20. Glad I didn’t drop nearly £40 for one a few months ago. My local also had the E Type coupe and the Martini 934RSR for the same price… best, M. 3
Ben Brown Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I'm not a fan of racing around in a circle, but they do have some cool liveries. I finally decided to give a NASCAR kit a go, and it arrived yesterday. The fluorescent decals sold it. @PatW, that Monte Carlo looks good, too! I also picked up Indycals decals for Hasegawa's Nissan R91CP because Hasegawa left off some sponsor logos. Ben 5
keefr22 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Dunno if either of you have used Monogram NASCAR decals, but if not, and based on my experience, get ready for a fight....!! ) (they're a bit like trying to stick cardboard to the model 🤣 ) Keith 3 1
Black Knight Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 I bought a book off an ebay bookseller 'How to Go Car Modelling' by Gerald Scarborough Its a 1981 book and some things and techniques are out of date but much of it is still good for today 3

TonyW Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 More goodies turned up this morning. The threatened '76 Caprice arrived with a pair of Cameros that came along for the ride... All came from https://www.modelsforsale.com/ Not only were they cheapest out there for all three, they give a loyalty discount and free post over £35. Top Sellers. End of advert. The Caprice comes with a car trailer that looks like the one that came with the old Mako Shark kit from the sixties. There are a few unfortunate ejector pin marks in awkward places, but it's nice to have it non the less. The decal sheet has a few odd options for a luxury barge but also welcome anyway. The car itself is a bit simplified but the moldings look sharp and accurate. I'll enjoy building this one. The Camero kits were bought as they were cheap. At some point I'll have another go at doing a dealership building like the one I attempted here a few years back. A fist full of '69 Chevys will be needed at that point. That's my justification, and it works just fine with me. Here's the thread for the dealership build. It didn't get finished but it was a very useful apprenticeship. 9
SnøMotion Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 That's a great site, @TonyW, thanks for the recommendation Martin 1
Bengalensis Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 A parcel just arrived from Japan, Aoshima 1/24 scale DeLorean 13

I bought some stickers for my Lumina build but have lost the printers firm! Somewhere in Harrogate or thereabouts! Ah found it. Screen print Digital.com 1
galaxyg Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Finnair has brought me, Mrs GalaxyG and my haul of new and secondhand model kits (not to mention her haul of cosmetic products) safely back home from Japan via Helsinki, and here's what I got. Some notes: 1) The Junction Produce Toyota Century has been on my out-of-production wanted list for quite some time and I'd never seen one on either auction or in Japan before, and yet there it was in a secondhand shop in Nagano and not even especially expensive, about £20. 2) The BanDai Nissan BE-1 was top of my out-of-production wanted list since I last saw some very high priced one on a previous holiday, which I didn't buy (something like £80). This one was a much more sensible £34. 3) The Martini Alfa from my earlier shop photos was still there when I got back to Tokyo, and so it became the most expensive purchase on the photo below at £42. The other Alfa was a much cheaper £22. 4) Not shown in the photo as it didn't come in a box is a Tamiya Snap-fit Porsche 911 Flatnose. In fact it's packed in alongside the Liberty Walk Hurracan. 5) The 911 GT3RS did appear in the shops a couple of days before I went, this one from Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku. Hurrah. A snip at £24. 6) It seems many (all?) Fujimi BMW 635CSi are the Enthusiast model whether they say it on the box or not. I'd researched that on 1999.co.jp before buying this one from the secondhand shop "Surugaya" for £18. 7) The VW Karmann Ghia was £18 as it has damaged glass parts, inc a big crack in the windscreen. Something to deal with later. I saw a non-damaged one going for about £50 but I put that budget elsewhere. 8 ) Even brand-new the Mitsubishi GTO is only about £9.50. The 240Z about £18.50 and the Delorean about £21. The Liberty Walk about £25. 9) At some point between the start of my trip and my return to Tokyo at the end, one of the secondhand kit shop had acquired a big pile of 1/24 F1 cars, so I took the 4 main classics from what I consider the golden era of 1988-1992, the McLaren, the Bennetton, the FW14B and the Ferrari. The Bennetton and the Ferrari had both been started and are presumed complete but I need to check yet - some parts are off the sprue and have been crudely sellotaped together in some kind of mock-up build. Since they were only £4.50 each it seemed worth the risk. The Gunze McLaren was a kit I didn't even know existed but for just over £10 it seemed worth taking a shot on - box was sealed. It's a very simple kit, no engine and little in the way of interior as it's designed to take a battery. Nonetheless it's a way to get a 1/24 MP4/4 without paying Meng prices. It may be crap however, we'll see. The "transparent" part is moulded in non-transparent plastic, for example. 10 The Toyota Vellfire has to be the best name for a vehicle, ever. 11) The Aoshima Chaser/Cresta is a "build one of two ways" kits and has two bodies (and associated parts), two windscreen parts and two sets of wheels. But only one interior and one chassis so a bit shy of two whole models in one box. It'll be built as a Cresta anyway. I also got a massive pile of spare parts by ordering from the Tamiya shop - I went with a list, some pre-prepared translations of what I was asking and why, and answers to their possible feedback and questions to me, some point and answer stuff for them, and I gave them 2 weeks and returned on Dec 2. They'd got about 3/4 of what I'd asked for including the all-important Honda and Toyota emblems which are so good, so useful and so cheap. Some other items were either out of stock at the factory or out of production in the case of the rally Lancer wheels and Tyres I'd asked for. What I do have now are a decent pile of spare low profile tyres and wheels to fit them on, amongst several other things. I also purchased a load of Aoshima aftermarket wheels to replace some of the duller/smaller ones that kits often have - the Mitsubishi GTO below being an example. The cheapest secondhand kits I saw by far on sale were both in sealed boxes in the junk/no-returns bin in the Suragaya shop. One was a Honda CRX-Del Sol for £3.50 and one was a Fujimi Convertible Nissan 300ZX for £1.80. I was almost tempted to get both just to see what was inside- shaking them certainly made a lot of loose rattling parts inside there. In the end I ran out of time and space to get anything else. The Nissan convetible doesn't interest me either and I've built a CRX Del Sol and have another in the stash. 15
Spiny Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 That's quite the shopping trip. I presume you used the "wear manky clothes, dump in Japan and use space for models" method to get them back? 2 1
keefr22 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Envious of the Martini Alfa - it's another of those 'why on earth did I sell that' kits that I now really wish was still in the stash - but it isn't going to be again seeing the stupid prices they now go for on ebay...!! Also rather envious of the prices of the GT3 & 240Z....!! 🤣 Nice haul!! Keith 1

Both Alfa Romeos are a real treat and I’ve been very intrigued by the Fujimi BMW and the Aoshima Crown and Century, the latter two being so quintessential Japanese cars. PatW Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Just scored on ebay UK, already started and in bits so it will very likely become a race car, possibly the first 500SL racer! Dumped 13.01.25 Bits missing, poor fit top and side windows. 7

The price was £39 including carriage and I couldn't hit the Buy Now button quick enough... It's the 2014 release from Round2models so I have my fingers crossed over the kit quality but at last I have one I can attempt to build. I'm dreading the decals but it'll be worth the effort I reckon to produce a model of what was probably the finest of George Barris' custom creations. UPDATE: I've just been reading the history of AMT and discovered that when round 2 Corp took it over and re-released this kit they produced new moulds for it, so the risk of a problematic build is much reduced. Just thought you might like to know. Having opened it and checked it through I find you get a huge amount of kit for your money - the box is crammed tight with parts! 3
FG2Si Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I pre-ordered the new Italeri Stratos from Hiroboy but wasn't expecting for a bit. It was shipped out earlier this week but I was surprised when it arrived today here in Canada. 11 1
Alan R Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Latest additions to my Stash: Tamiya R5 Turbo - Never thought to see this one again. Tamiya Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) - Looks superb Revell Porsche 911 G Model Targa - been wondering about this one for a while Revell Porsche 911 G Model Coupe - Ditto Goodness only knows when I'll get on to these, but I have them. That makes 18 Porsche kits and two VW kits (Beetle and T1 'splitty') I think I might have a bit of an obsession... Cheers, Alan. 5
