Ki-43-II `Oscar`, Kashiwabara Air Base, Horomushiro Island, 1944

Hi everyone, hope you don`t mind me bothering you with some photo`s of the latest addition to the Pacific collection

My attempt at Hasegawa`s 1/48 scale `Oscar` Late Version

Finished in the markings of Captain Yukichi Kitakoga of the 54th Flight Regiment

Built from the box contents and just added the usual, belts, wiring harness, brake pipes and aerial wires

For a simple aircraft, Mr Hasegawa managed, I think to make it a bit trickier than it needed to be, especially the 2 part undercarriage legs and cowling attachment

Also the separate wing tips also include part of the ailerons which are tricky to clean up.

I know the flaps shouldn`t really be deployed on the ground but I couldn`t be bothered to try and get them to fit closed.......

....and in any case I like the look of them as they are.

Decals were the kits and weren`t any bother.

One question if I may, the red/brown on the propellor, is that a specific paint colour or is it your own mix?

Another great build Russ, Just a quick question did you use Hasegawa's decals, only asking as I've had a problem with their decals on a 1/48 Aichi Val I'm doing, never had a problem before using their decals, but the kits been in the stash a few years so that may have been the reason

Edit: always use the hot water method and they just would not comply even with decal solutions

Very nice kit indeed, you got it absolutely right, and the deployed flaps actually give your airplane in this instance something more to look at. The photography and beautiful setting make this a very special post. This makes me think of something : I can understand the desire to camouflage the plane when it's on the ground, but then why did the Japanese paint such large hinomarus on the wings ?

Thanks, I just used Humbrol 113 for the propeller and spinner colour.

Thanks Colin, I find Hasegawa decals a bit inconsistent too, at times. I was going to use decals from a Hasegawa P-400 I did a bit back, but they were Impervious to everything I tried to settle them down, even boiling water and hair dryer. Yet others go on fine?? I just used Microset on these ones and had no problems at all.

The Oscar is an interesting type.  I believe they were deployed in significant numbers from land bases in the Pacific theatre, but the Zero was the icon.  In fact, I read that many encounters with Oscars were mistakenly reported as Zeros.
