russ c Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Hi everyone, hope you don`t mind me bothering you with some photo`s of the latest addition to the Pacific collection My attempt at Hasegawa`s 1/48 scale `Oscar` Late Version Finished in the markings of Captain Yukichi Kitakoga of the 54th Flight Regiment Built from the box contents and just added the usual, belts, wiring harness, brake pipes and aerial wires For a simple aircraft, Mr Hasegawa managed, I think to make it a bit trickier than it needed to be, especially the 2 part undercarriage legs and cowling attachment Also the separate wing tips also include part of the ailerons which are tricky to clean up. I know the flaps shouldn`t really be deployed on the ground but I couldn`t be bothered to try and get them to fit closed....... ....and in any case I like the look of them as they are. Decals were the kits and weren`t any bother. Thanks for looking, hope you like Cheers Russ 66 1
georgeusa Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 The build and finish of this kit is just excellent. The photography and setting of the pictures make the presentation just pop out. Just overall fun to look at. Thanks for sharing. 1
Whofan Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 A really nice model there! I particularly like the mottling, it looks very good. One question if I may, the red/brown on the propellor, is that a specific paint colour or is it your own mix? 1
Sky Keg Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Russ, your “museum” just got that much better with this outstanding Oscar added to it. Well done sir!! Mike 1
Toryu Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Another gem, Russ! Nice colour match between the yellow flowers and the sentai marking 😉 1
keefr22 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Russ, please don't stop bothering us with pics of your lovely models, they are all really worth seeing! This is a lovely 'Oscar' with your usual excellent paint and finishing work! Top job again! Keith 1
colin Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Another great build Russ, Just a quick question did you use Hasegawa's decals, only asking as I've had a problem with their decals on a 1/48 Aichi Val I'm doing, never had a problem before using their decals, but the kits been in the stash a few years so that may have been the reason Edit: always use the hot water method and they just would not comply even with decal solutions 1
DiveBomber Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Very nice kit indeed, you got it absolutely right, and the deployed flaps actually give your airplane in this instance something more to look at. The photography and beautiful setting make this a very special post. This makes me think of something : I can understand the desire to camouflage the plane when it's on the ground, but then why did the Japanese paint such large hinomarus on the wings ? 1

I was going to use decals from a Hasegawa P-400 I did a bit back, but they were Impervious to everything I tried to settle them down, even boiling water and hair dryer. Yet others go on fine?? I just used Microset on these ones and had no problems at all. Cheers Russ 1
Zigomar Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 Thumbs up old chap! Another boring model in paradise! Cheers 1
Rando Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 What a beautiful build and display. It looks like an old colorized photo with how it's slightly washed out. 1
Pete in a shed Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Another Beauty Russ. I like the 'applied in the field' feel of the green splodges. And I just love the settings you come up with to display the models you make. Masterful stuff.. Pete 1
Ian Anderson Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Great model Russ, especially like the subtle camouflage! 1
VT Red Sox Fan Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Great work on this—noted you said you used Humbrol for the prop/spinner—same for the rest of this stunner? Again, well done—best, Erwin 1

kapam Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Excellent work as usual. 👏👏👏👏 The Oscar is an interesting type. I believe they were deployed in significant numbers from land bases in the Pacific theatre, but the Zero was the icon. In fact, I read that many encounters with Oscars were mistakenly reported as Zeros. 1
