Great stuff ! I really like the tone variations you achieve in your painting, and I also like the little rust on the exhaust pipes. Gun barrels : do they really extend that much out of the wing ?- 25 replies

Wow ! Never seen such dense spaghetti camouflage ! Seems your patience is limitless ! And thanks for sharing your technique for the spots ; I must try this on my next model. -

Excellent choice of colours ! Hand-painted ? You gotta be kidding ! How did you manage the spots on the fuselage ? With a brush you get more like clear-edged dots ; a sponge maybe ? I refrain from painting that kind of camouflage because my spots will be awful. Thanks for sharing. -

Very realistic colours ! I like particularly the weathering of the wing leading edges and the paneling of the undersurfaces. -

Generally, I'm no great fan of grey/green camouflage, but here I really like the way you painted your Thunderstreak ! It must be the subtle lighter spots in the green as well as in the grey that give life to the colours. And also the camouflage design. -
Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Airfix 1/72
DiveBomber replied to Sebastian _SJM's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hey Sebastian, that colour is a difficult one, and I think you got it quite right. Is this plane one of Akagi's fighters ? And by the way, I'm also an Airfix fan ! -
Nakajima B5N1 Kate Airfix 1/72
DiveBomber replied to DiveBomber's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thank you ! Having decided to build this one with folded wings, there was a risk that there would not be much to look at ; therefore I looked in my figure boxes and very quickly found some I could use. -
This box remained in storage for more than 40 years … The cover does, indeed, not look very appealing. But once I got started, I was very happy with the model. Airfix, of course. The writings on the side of the fuselage say “Slava Ukraine” (Glory to Ukraine) and “Smert’ Stalinu” (Death to Stalin) -- Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine was then in full swing … Weathering : I removed here and there spots of white paint with cellulosic thinner, to reveal the dark green undercoating. Note the (movable) air brakes, as this plane was used as a dive bomber for ground attacks. My ventral forward window got somewhat blurred ; could it be an effect of the glue migrating through the plastic from the edges towards the centre ?

Thank you all for the nice comments. It's a great reward for me that other persons enjoyed my post, like I enjoy looking at other persons' models to find inspiration. Good models push us to set always higher limits ; less good ones comfort us that we are not alone. The most important thing is to keep the dream alive. -
Great idea, the MiG emerging through the clouds ! And I'm also annoyed when kits come without a pilot.

Very nice kit indeed, you got it absolutely right, and the deployed flaps actually give your airplane in this instance something more to look at. The photography and beautiful setting make this a very special post. This makes me think of something : I can understand the desire to camouflage the plane when it's on the ground, but then why did the Japanese paint such large hinomarus on the wings ?

I have myself just built a P-40 in plain olive drab, and I was quite happy with it, but now I like yours much more than mine ! As a newbie I am allowed a stupid question ? Some modellers paint the exhaust fume traces in black, others in white : is there no consensus ? -

Amazing work in the cockpit and impressive historical / technical research ! The camouflage colours also blend into each other very well.
