Vitor Sousa Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) Hello fellow modellers, Here I present you my construction of 1/72 Aloeuttes III from the 552 Squadron of the Portuguese Air Force. The kits are from Heller, the quality of them are not so good but with the photoetch from Extratech and some dedication, pacience and steady work it can come out a pretty nice machine. Reduce the thickness of plastic for opening and detail holes From the two engine versions I chose to turn them in one with “free” exhaust Edited October 1, 2012 by Vitor Sousa 5
Learstang Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Brilliant work there, Vitor! I can't wait to see the finished product. Regards, Jason
Silver Fox Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Beautiful engines, I lookforward to seeing the finished product. I got a good view of aone of these when on holiday, it landed in the field next to where we were parked!
Vitor Sousa Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 (edited) Another two pictures and… Why do I build in 1/72? And why helicopters? And why do I make them with open doors? … and here they are finished I hope you enjoyed Best Regards Vitor Sousa Next I'll try to build the SH-60B Seahawk if I can find this 1/72 Hasegawa kit If some on see it available in some on-line store please let me know Edited October 1, 2012 by Vitor Sousa 5

wyverns4 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Hi Vitor, They look amazing. So delicate and yet made from a 'robust' Heller model original. Well done! I was looking at one of these at the Maceda show last weekend and thinking how to go about building one. Now I know! Cheers, Christian the Married 1
alex Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 fantastic models! I was thinking about building the same kit in swiss markings, but the heller kit scares me off a bit. Seeing your Alouettes, I might give a try... Alex 1
Vitor Sousa Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 * Christian, it also after one Maceda show (a few years ago) that I decide to build the Alouette III * Alex, the Heller kit it's a bit poor but with the Extratech PE and some pacience you can build a nice 1/72 helicopter See the step-by-step and any doubt just ask 1
Gajman Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Wow, those are REALLY good builds, well done. Your doors look so delicate and well detailed. I have a load of these kits (11 of them). I plan to build some examples as used by the SAAF, the Rhodesian Air Force and also by the Portuguese Air Force when they flew them in Mozambique. I fell in love with the gunship version of the Alouette when two RhAF Alouette gunships flew over us while we were on holiday in Rhodesia. I remember jumping up and down excitedly waving my arms wildly as they flew over and this hand poking out next to the what seemed like a HUGE gun barrel and giving a calm wave in return. 1
heloman1 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Hi Vitor, very very nice indeed, I sepecially like your treatment of the engines, which is quite difficult to capture in this small scale. Congratulations and thanks for sharing you pics and build thread. Colin on the Africa Station 1
