B-58 ? Ok, not close to the Victor, actually several miles above ! 😜

I will give the B-58 as runner up. I had thought of her but the underslung engine pods and centreline pod just shade her off top spot a wee bit.

The rest of the field though say back

Saying who our favorite fighter is is very broad.
From the First World War, the Second, between the wars, the current reactor or Korea? Yes, I have one for each era or time period.

From WW1 I would say that my favorite is the Fokker DVII.
From WW2 I would say that my favorite is the P-38.
From Korea and neighboring years the F-86.
From Korea onwards I have 3 great loves: F-104, Phantom and F-18, although possibly the winner is the Phantom.

Saying just one is like choosing between Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Jane Fonda or Sofia Loren.....

Andrés.

If we’re talking bombers then I agree the Victor is a stunner, particularly before she hit middle age and became afflicted with various growths.

I’d add the B-1B to the ‘beautiful’ list (and her larger Soviet doppelgänger), and of course the Mosquito. XB-70 too maybe. And the Mirage IV.

I was thinking about consistently beautiful output and Sydney Cam / Hawker and Dassault definitely have an edge, from reading the above.

Now if you had been talking bomber then there is only one contender for that title ever - Handley Page Victor.  Nothing else comes close.

Thats crazy talk, B-58 looks fast just parked up.

Nah. Yes you are right it does. But I’ve dated women that look like that. Trust me it never ends well.
On the other hand the Victor oozes style, grace, classic design all without that shouty brashness one gets with the B-58.
If you’d buy a Ferrari you’d take the B-58 but the Victor is the Aston Martin with Kisten Scott Thomas on your arm. Not some supermodel diva.

B-58 is a good looking plane though in the same way as the F-104.

Id give the B-47 a very honourable mention too

Correct answer.

We can close the thread now.

Indeed.

In fact I was wondering why anyone would even start such a discussion when there is clearly only one correct answer and it’s been known for decades.

I’ve heard rumours of other opinions but I can’t help it if some folks are determined to be wrong.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Agreed. And I think viewing angle can make a difference.

Although I'm a ship modeler I can sometimes see beauty in other areas, even aircraft. 🙂

The most beautiful fighter? Considerable range here. WW2 single engine - for me an early Spitfire. WW2 twin engine - Mozzie (Grumman Tigercat second place). Jets - Grumman Panther and Mirage 2000 are serious contenders.

But for grace in the air, for me the F111c with wings extended is very hard to beat. Not strictly a fighter though.

Regards, Jeff.

This is called ‘Irony’; stating the opposite of the truth in order to express the truth.

I suspect that our friends in the US Navy might be so adept at ‘irony’ that they sometimes might take the idea as far as  ‘sarcasm’, but I hope not. 🤔

Ok…it’s the BRITmodeller here, so everyone is naming only British planes.
Here in Singapore, I grew up seeing and hearing the low howling sound of the Hawker Hunters. It’s a beautiful plane but it can’t beat the F14 Tomcat.
The F14 gets my vote for a beautiful fighter.

I would agree except the F-14 is totally out in its proportions whereas the Hunters lines are near perfect.

I do think the F-14 is a great plane and a great looker but “beautiful” ???:hmmm::thumbsdown::D

I can't believe we are at two pages and nobody has mentioned the Farley Fruitbat 😂

Atb, Steve.

Steve. You are forgetting the elegant lines of the prototype were destroyed by the addition of the external crew Elsan  toilet on operational models. Usefully turned in civil models to dual purpose crop spraying in Inner Mongolia as I recall

Throwing a curve ball in here......I just really want to know what the Swedes were smoking in 1955 to come up with this design

The Saab J-35 Draken....One of my favorite designs along with the Hawker Hunter, P51-D 'Stang

SAAB is another firm that has faultless aesthetics right throughout their history, at least postwar. And yes the Tunnan is gorgeous. Voluptuous is the word.

The Viggen is another example of ‘purposeful rather than beautiful’ but equally appealing for that. Top five for me aesthetically but I wouldn’t necessarily call it beautiful.

Funnily I find it quite hard to name a fighter. Bomber is easy: XB-70 If you name it here one might add the A-12 as non-fighter (a bit more beautiful than SR-71 IMHO and while I like the YF-12 the orperational version would have been more nicely looking). Many beautiful racers like MC-72 or Supermarines and Queen of all the DH 88 Comet. Which leads me to: DH Sea Hornet 🥰 But agree with Hawker Hunter, Spitfire (high back MkXIV or PR.19), Mustang, Tigercat, ... To add one to the list: Lockheed XF-90

The Sarcastic and Ironic sound like Royal Navy sister ships to me.  All those macho names, like the famous escort carrier "HMS Quite Miffed".

What's wrong with you people? It's obviously the F11 Tiger. It looks exactly like the jets I'd draw in the margins of my copybooks in school.

Honourable mentions go to the F16 and F86.

Glad no one mentioned the F4. One American commentator said that it was so ugly it could have been  British. 🤣
