Spot of the day - Part 7

My initial assumption was that the Parade was a "stickers and floormats' special, but apparently that is a super dooper two piece removable roof, not just a fabric sunroof.

One of just eight left, found one on Bonhams sold last year for £3200, and looks restored rather than the originality of the car above. Except those three-spoke alloys? Can't make them out clearly, will look closer if I see it again.

Edit

Just popped out in the rain and found this.

Not sold on the colour mind you.

I had to drive through Nuneaton yesterday, but it wasn't all bad.  I saw something that looked for all the world like an S1 Sport Quattro in full white and yellow rally livery.   I imagine the chance of it being genuine are vanishingly small; some searching threw up a replica built by someone in Leicestershire, so that might have been it.  IIRC, the reg ended VAV,if anyone knows it?

I see this quite often around here, oddly usually when it is tipping with rain so they must be confident of the roof.

Anyway, I was looking out for the postman when the latest in Italian exotica made an appearance in the dry for once.

Does a video find count as a spot? If you're a car enthusiast of a certain age, then you will remember the BMW 3.0 CSI

I found this Italian rebuild to as new on the tube. This thing is gorgeous. Forget any other supercar you can name.

The video is in Italian with very good subtitles and about 50 minutes long. Too many adverts though.

When I was in uni I had a summer job working in a pub in Dinas, Pembrokeshire. The owner also owned a diving company - and a lime green 3.0CSL (and A P6 Rover 3500 with some rather special lightweight body panels!). Apparently the Beemer's engine had been breathed on by a BMW race specialist....

Went out with him a couple of times in the Beemer - it was manic. And not just a bit scary....!! He told a story of when he was being chased by the police along the newly opened section of the M4 to Crosshands. He said he thought he'd lost them when he got to 140mph and they were no longer in his mirrors. However when he got to the roundabout at the end of the new section he was faced with a couple of plod traffic cars blocking the way. When stopped Plod said to him 'your car may be faster than ours, but radio waves are faster than yours!!'

He swore it was true but if not it was a good yarn...!! 🤣

And it was one hell of a car! I remember it looking just like this;

Only one colour for one of them - black, with gold John Player details. We had at least one over here for a while. "Gentleman Jum" (Jim Richards, who was a Kiwi) peddled it with more than a modicum of success. Always looked, and sounded, spectacular!

Cool!!

Funnily enough there's one very similar around here - not on quite such monster tyres though!

Porsche 944 (?)

That indeed is what it is :)

The roof looks awful - really spoils the lines of the car!

While picking the grandson up from school in Thursday afternoon, a car pulling a trailer passed me.

On the trailer ....

A Bentley blower, in racing green!

I was stunned for a moment, I can tell you! And unable to take a photo, sadly .....

Sometimes it's a day for spotting. All pictures taken near the most expensive hotel "Vier Jahreszeiten" (Four Seasons) in Munich.

I had to make a 3-hour round trip today to pick up some brake parts.

The brake shop has had this 1965 Chevrolet for a few weeks, and they had it parked out front this morning so I got a photo.

I'm not absolutely certain but I think 1965 might have been the last year model sold with factory RHD by Holden/GM Australia.

This one has a 327 badge on the front quarter, and I think the 327 V8 would have been the only engine option for '65.

They were all automatics too, which originally would have been an iron Powerglide.

I had a RHD 1962 Bel Air as a daily driver for 13 years. It was great, not always all that reliable but it was easy to repair!

Last week was a disastrous week for me, so as a bit of a therapy I went to do carspotting on Friday

TYAS-203717.jpg

Finally met my favourite 911 GT3, the 991.2 GT3 with manual gearbox. This Guards Red GT3 came all the way from Surabaya on the far east side of Java with other sportscars and supercars as part of their West Java trip. So I was excited to take proper photos of it the next day... were I not being hounded and kicked by random security officer because they think people with cameras are nuisance. As a disclaimer, I already have coordination with the owners of these cars and they were very happy to have me and my team covering their event. But this security officer was adamant I was a nuisance, and sadly this is how journalists are treated in Indonesia since Suharto became CIA's puppet in 1960s. Suffice to say I was extremely angry and threw a massive tantrum. Didn't help that later that Saturday my grandpa collapsed and fell unconscious after his blood sugar level shot up to 5 times the maximum acceptable limit. I literally broke down in tears that day and decided to have a break on Sunday, and went to Jakarta instead.

TYAS-2591.jpg

This is what awaits me there. A Praga R1. Praga is a Czech brand and R1 was their first car after... 80 years, I presume? This was supposed to be some sort of junior LMP car with carbon safety cell and 2-liter Renault engine at the back. There is a road legal version called R1R but I think this was not it, rather this is a new R1T, the same Praga R1 used in Praga Cup as the support races for BritCar series.

TYAS-2358.jpg

A familiar Datsun 240Z. Used to live in Bandung not far from my home but the owner was appointed as commissioner for a national bank so he needs to relocate to Jakarta, and his collections followed suit.

TYAS-2419.jpg

This, though, is my favourite for the day. A rather rarely-seen Ferrari F12tdf in Grigio Silverstone Opaco. Indonesia once had 7 F12tdfs, but 4 were either exported or stored somewhere away from prying eyes, and one was burnt crisp onboard a cargo ship. This particular car was once very much hidden for years, but these past 2 years the owner wanted to open up his dealership and his collections to public so he decided it's time to let the F12tdf loose once in a while. Now, I was supposed to do photoshoot with a recently imported Diablo 6.0, but the owner of said Diablo needed to attend a funeral so the plan was unfortunately canned. Still a bit disappointed, but with F12tdf around I did not feel as disappointed as I would have been. At least I had a bit of a therapy after what seemed to be a catastrophic week.

Mk2 Focus did come with 4-door saloon bodystyle. In fact, when Ford Indonesia first entered Focus to our market, it was the saloon first to tackle Corollas and Civics, with hatchback followed later. I think even Mk.3 got saloon version as well

Can't remember when I last saw one, but I have seen them although they are very rare. What I can't be sure of though is whether the ones I saw were imports from Ireland (where saloons are more popular than over here) or genuine UK cars. They were on sale over here early on, but hardly anybody bought them and I'm not sure if they survived the facelift.

That little Fiat 126 that Matt put up looks nice.  It was basically Fiat's replacement car for the original 500. Tiny & rear engined.

Did Abarth do anything with or for the 126 ? Not aware of any Abarth versions !     Not sure if the power plant was from the 500 that was used in it where some of the Abarth tuning goodies could have been used.

The 500 has become desirable as a classic but the 126 seems to have fallen by the wayside.
