I hadn't appreciated that Whirlybird weren't about anymore, no wonder I'm struggling to find their sets. Such a shame.

Just tried to PM you regarding that James, but can't seem to get it to work for you?

Looking at reference pics, the yellow RAF HAR3 seem to carry more stencils(in Black) than the Navy schemes in the kits decal sheet.

This maybe an issue for those trying to build a RAF before Airfix may release this version.

Sometimes even more significant changes such as the HC.4s getting five bladed tail rotors for a period during the Afghanistan conflict, never understood why?

The five bladed tail rotors were fitted when the Carson blades were fitted.

The Carson blades were fitted to give better hot and high performance.

Carson blades had nothing to do with Westland Helicopters.

Westland Helicopters introduced the 6 bladed tail rotor to the Sea King (but these were not on Sikorsky variants).

Therefore, the only available configuration, was Carson blades and 5 bladed tail rotor.

(I think, happy to be corrected, as always!)

The 5 bladed rotors fitted at that time were a new Westland composite design that provided enough output that only 5 blades were required. They weren’t the same as the original 5 blades

There’s a shed load of new Eduard sets listed this morning for the kit in the future releases section on Hannants website. No pictures yet but all due late Oct.

The coloured seat belt sets will be handy.

any idea when the Sea King will hit the continent? (in plastic form please!)

One major Swedish hobby shop has announced that it will arrive on October 23. (Sweden might not be regarded as part of the continent, but at least a part of EU.)

sorry, they had just received a very limited number of kits as a first batch. Due to early preordering I was among the lucky ones to get one. I was not aware of the circumstance when I wrote the note.

Thanks,

I ordered one anyways yesterday 😀

Let's see, Fingers crossed!

The Eagle (errh, THE KING !!) has landed :)

Awesome kit. Also got the nice Airmark book for Seaking, lots of nice pics there :)

Now to find all the possible bits and pieces to make Gulf war HAS.5 with all the added lumps and bumps.

Thanks to my club friend Michal for securing the kit for me :)

Hi, I contacted BAM models and asked about future stuff for Seaking (they are working on landing gear, rotor head and cockpit ceiling switch panel already). They are open to various ideas. So, I made a list and trying to find as many pics in my archive. So far, I have a list of:

dual mount of chaff/flare launchers - port side of HAS.5/HC.4 during Gulf war

IR jammer mount - looks like there are 3 variations with different "relief holes" in the metal frame (sorry, english is not my native language, translated with google translate) - for both HAS and HC

weapon racks

MAD sponson

FLIR - Gulf war version - so far only one pic exists.

Does anyone has anything to add ?

I already ordered all Eduard sets for HAS.5 :)

Happy modelling ...

I suppose that Airfix will come up with a HAR.3 and boxing one day but …

- HAR. 3/ Mk.43/ Mk.48 rear cabin observer’s seats

- Mk. 41 rear observers seats (different cushion than those above)

- life raft and SAR gear (slings, hooks, lines)

- medical equipment

- stokes litter

- rescue basket

etc.

Airfix HU.5 SAR version only offers seats and the nav/plotters station and nothing more
