Erm.... just down to one now. 😇🤣🤣 Thanks Johnny - got lucky! I found this great thread on colours for the AIM so I've painted them grey using the small pot of Hu128 provided. I realised that the dark liquid in the lid might actually be part of the pigment: … so mixed it in. Darker. Duh. I wanted to put a coat of AK Dark Aluminium paste on the nose so bent the end of the tube over and got more than I bargained for: Still a lot left in the tube, but I looked around for other metally bits and decided I'd do the jet pipes: I'll give them a black wash later I think. AIMs done: They'll get a wash too. The jet pipes got some 'exhaust manifold' as did the Scooter's back end: Another coat on the tanks: …and then I think I'm ready to gloss coat.

I'm finding some of the pots are pretty good if I dip the brush in flow improver first. We're here after the black bits: Some awful seepage and a nasty finish here with Tamiya flat black and 'tape for curves': Not a fan. But the SHAR's not looking too bad: I think I'll wash the nozzles with some thinned grey.

I also secure the outer edge with regular tape; and, needless to say, I brush on some Aqua Gloss on the inner edge, to avoid paint seeping... The SHAR is definitely looking good Ciao 2

Only the rear ones get the heat treated look the front nozzles are painted metal just like the wings or fuselage so dont overdo the hot distressed look up front. Technically they are cold nozzles, only the back ones get jet blast through 'em. 5
Marklo
Not that enamoured with Tamiya tape for curves, I’ve taken to using Bostik self adhesive plumbers foil and trimming it with a scalpel lately. used on my Moskito and my hind (wahey) and I’m finding it’s much less prone to bleed. Pete in Lincs
And I've just done a weeks worth of catch up. You have been a busy chap. They're both coming along nicely and looking good. CedB
Terrible night's sleep last night. Perhaps it was the Blue Cream Cheese I had in the evening. I don't care, I'm addicted! The SHAR is definitely looking good Ciao Thanks Giorgio Sounds like a lot of work eh? I did stretch it and used the 'warm it up with your finger' method (fnaar!!) but I didn't gloss. You guessed, didn't you. In my defence I think it crept away from the line I'd planned. Not a fan On 17/11/2020 at 09:18, perdu said: Good, nay excellent idea BUT. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's flippin' dear! £4 for a tiny little roll. But wait! Time for a comparison perhaps? CedB
Oooh, thanks Terry - much better value The Aizu did work well. Look at the black and try to ignore the rest: When that was dry I masked using 0.4mm Washi cut on the Infini board. Stupidly I forgot to take any pictures I think it looked a bit more fragile than the same-sized Aizu but it did its job, allowing me to dot-paint the missing bits: Hate close up shots. Finally I washed the AIMs with very thin black to 'anodise' the AK Aluminium: When that's dry, I can gloss coat everything ready for the transfers. Hooray!

CedB
Thanks Giorgio, Bill, Ben and Simon. Very kind of you all Here's my next worry: I'm going to do the yellow bits first because, if they don't settle over all the vortex generators: I'll need to strip them off and, gulp, paint the yellow. As they're Airfix transfers I'm going to use DecalFix as it seems to work well with them. With some Daco Strong in the background. Wish me luck!
CedB
Well, as we thought, that's not going to work… Look at this - why is 17 preceded by a '?': I hate it when instructions give you an option and don't say how you should decide. Frustrating. Not as frustrating as trying to get these on and lined up though: After a while the DecalFix made the transfer soft enough to press it over the vortex generators but that made it almost impossible to line up the two transfers, and there was an inevitable gap. Solution? Find some suitable paint and spray them. So there. Grrrr. 8
