or a Granby Gr1 to go with by Sky Pirate Bucc currently on the bench

or another F3 after I did the Airfix one last time and an Italeri one long time ago...

MW-1 is high up on many peoples lists, including mine!

I'm slowly on my spare time working with the 1/72 now, after that it's full speed ahead with 1/48.

This is the 1/1 version

Off course it needs to be simplified for when scaling it down.

Don't be bringing this up.  I've got way too much going on right now.  :crying:

It's on my radar, but unfortunately it's going to take an act of the gods to bring this one to the table.

Looking forward to everyone's amazing builds though.

Never mind, I found it in the link I quoted from you...

However was there any specialized unit or were they fielded throughout the whole tornado force? The picture looks like a Marineflieger Tornado in use with the WTD Manching with that tail badge.

Thanks

Old post:

"Dear, can I ask you if it was effectively fielded to the luftwaffe units, or was this only tested? I've never seen an operational IDS wearing , so I'm curious if it never got past the integration tests. Or otherwise as it looks realy powerfull adding to the Tonka's already brute look."

Luftwaffe bought 844 units of them (Italy 100) but I don't think they ever bought any practice dispensers, hence no good way of seeing them short of the outbreak of WWIII.

They were withdrawn in the late 2000:s after a lot of countries signed the agreement on cluster munitions.

Have a little read here (and practice your German reading skills at the same time)

Quote from the Panavia Website https://www.panavia.de/operations/squadrons/germany/ : "Specialising in ground attacks, JaboG 31 “B” commenced operations with the new MW-1 runway denial munition in November 1984".

Here ist a picture of one of their aircraft with a MW-1 from 1986: https://www.airhistory.net/photo/241006/4403

Hey Marcin,

Thanks for your explanation! Didn't know Boelcke was the frontline unit for this task. Only went last week twice to Norvenich (for the Israelis), however that's off topic. ;)

By the way, a cool looking Tornado kit collection you have there. That ADV kit of Revell, is it derived from their IDS mould or is it from another lineage? I had an old Hasegawa F.3, which isn't that bad, but for similar looking Tornado's I started kitbashing it with a Revell IDS. Never thought about that release though...

Greetings!

The kit is actually an old Italeri mould. The main thing it has going for it is its price and availability. It sadly lacks the Hindenburg tanks and I have nightmares about the wing sweep mechanism, which I remember being prone to jamming. I wanted however an ADV Tornado badly, as I like the looks of it way better than that of the IDS.

Question thats puzzling me. got the revell 1/144 kit from the KC10 double set, and its described in a scheme that isn't listed on the tornadosig website,  instead of the 3 tone norm95 of various medium greys scheme its depicted as all over RAL9002 white grey instead. Seems an unusually bad error for revell?

The aircraft is JaboG 32 33 + 46 dated 1995

@Colin W, I missed your answer to my post as somehow the notification mails ended in my spam folder. I havefrom the in total 7 Tornados a trio of 72nd GR.1s, and also the decals for Dharan Annie ready on standby.

Maybe I need some adequate weaponry, which is to be determined yet. However a duo of Paveways maybe? No JP233 in any case as that's reserved for a Saudi Tonka which had the honour of being the only one to fly an operational sortie using the weapon. His wingman had a ground abort iirc. After that, the experience was seemingly not great and the crew advised against further use and this marked the dnd for the Saudi JP233s in GW1

Comes to my mind that i forgot the serial of the jet... Anyone who could shed a light on that?

A placeholder for the Revell 1/144 GR.1. It is obviously scaled down from the 1/72 kit (of which I have several), with the same stores options, but the decal sheet is nowhere near as frightening. I reckon I can squeeze this into my autumn schedule:

I hardly ever build in this scale, but I have a small and growing collection of "modern" jets, mostly Revell.

I have also been trying to find that for many a year, but so far no success.

Ooooooh, never even seen this on the horizon never mind 3 days from starting! I took part in the last Tornado GB so it would be rude of me not to take part in this one. I have two Revell 1/48 IDS kits in the stash and two of the new “Farewell” GR4 boxing’s should be landing at my door any day now so perfect timing. I’ve just finished the Desert Babe Op Granby kit so the build sequence is fresh in my brain!

Might need some guidance with my build.

It all comes down to not following the instructions to get the best fit!🤪
