Can I jump on board with an early 90's 111 Sqn jet? 1/48 either Revell or the Eduard if I can get one. Spent five very happy years there, have been planning a tribute.

*Eduard kit ordered, will be doing HH as in my avatar pic.*

Cheers

I have added Jackster and Blue Centurian to the previous list.

Great to have you on board.

I assume this will be a typical 3-month build? If so, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring with the Revell 1/32 beast. I've had it in the stash for years with a ton of aftermarket, but been afraid to build it! So this will be the perfect solution.

Excellent Paul, glad to have you on board.

Another 1/32 job will keep Rich on his toes. 😈

Oooo this little, well not really little at all, showed up today!

IMG_2921-M.jpg

Originally only 34 pounds! hate to say what they cost here!

The decal sheet is huge, almost the size of the box!

IMG_2922-M.jpg

...and THAT box!!! Why do Revell insist in using such :poop: boxes!!!! Even though it was packed nicely the box was still a bit crushed...was scared the canopy might have been damaged, luckily it wasn't. The model has since been moved to a much stronger and smaller box.

The only issue might be that the decals look really old (was bought from a specialist reseller), if so I may still go with the "Lego Tiger"!

New Aires cockpit is on order....the first of many AM bits!! :D

I happened upon a Revell GR4 yesterday and decided to research the difference between it and the Italeri ones already in the stash.

I'll post more later when I get home.

That would be a nice bit of info to share Colin. I managed to pick a Revell GR4 up for a very reasonable price last month, but I have several of the Italeri kits already with some of the Paragon sets for them as well.

Does anybody do a decent set of decals in 1/72 for a Saudi Tornado in these markings and camouflage ? Its the 1st photo in the link.

Ooh, I quite like that scheme!  😲

Thank you thats why i was asking ? Im not a fan of grey and i don't normally go in for celebratory, fancy, or demonstration schemes. I thought the Saudi's might be a good option for a different angle on camouflage ?

We're of similar minds.  Give me a line jet over a demo jet almost any day of the week (there are always exceptions, but they are few & far between).  Speaking of, I need to see if my Tigermeet IDS Tornado has non-TM markings.  Might have to locate other decals for that one.

I don't mind over all grey too much, I've been playing with pre-shading to break it up a bit and add some character.  I personally get a little frustrated w/ a lot of the modern USN decals...as they tend to be 90% CAG birds.  Gaudy colors slapped over a TPS paint.  It just doesn't look right in my eyes.  But it's what the masses prefer, so if you're going to make money then you have to appeal to the masses.  At least some of the decal kits at least come with a lo-vis option.

Agree .. The USN is cracking down though. There was a order about a year ago stating no more non standard TPS colors for CAG birds. The Navy was tired of paying for all the repaints when the planes needed to go overseas. So now its going to be very reminiscent of the later 80’s grey, more grey, and a little black. The one exception to that might be 2026 the 250th birthday of the USA.

Nice.  The only color our CAG bird had was the green stripes behind the black raven (mid-90s).  Made for a quick touch up enroute to the Gulf.  All our other birds even the raven was FS35237.  The only black on the birds was the modex.

We did have some nose-art on one of our birds for awhile when it was cooped up in the hanger bay chasing electrical issues, though that got covered up right after the FCF before it's first trip over country.

That basic camo scheme comes with the Hasegawa kit. If that is not to your liking you could try Milverse a decal company from Singapore.

I am not sure if the Saudi GR4 equivalent aircraft were painted in this scheme or went straight to Grey after their update, as I think that the aircraft in the photo is a GR1.

Many thanks Jabba, now to try and track one down. If nothing else maybe I’ll do a Desert Storm RAF Tornado ? @Colin W please add me to the list as a tentative entry. All pending on me finding a kit and decals that are suitable ?

I have added Corsairfoxfouruncle to the list. Just incase you forget.

I hope we get at least one Saudi sand mover in the build. Definitely the most colourful standard scheme.

I'd be very interested in joining you all for this!

I've been sitting on a 1/32 one of these and the GB would be a perfect opportunity...
