Roman Schilhart
Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is RS Models 1/72 F-5A Lightning, the recce version of the P-38G. I added Brengun photo-etch and painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics, weathering with artists oils. I found this kit pretty challenging, with fit issues galore. It can only be recommended to experienced modelers. According to the kit instructions, this particular aircraft belonged to 12th PRS, based in Florennes, Belgium in October 1944. This information cannot be confirmed, as the 12th PRS flew F-6 Mustangs at that time (not Lightnings) and was never based in Belgium: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12th_Reconnaissance_Squadron If anyone can provide further details about this aircraft, infos are most welcome. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thanks for your interest, best greetings from Vienna! theplasticsurgeon
A fine looking model Wolfgang, that captures the tail-low look of Lightnings very well. I'm very tempted to look for this kit at my next model-show. Edited July 15, 2018 by theplasticsurgeon More info
stevehnz
That looks great Roman, you can tell an experienced modeler has been at it. Interesting scheme, I'm guessing its the so called "Synthetic Haze" low vis scheme. It's hardly low vis with all those girlys dotted around it. Steve. You are right, Steve - its called "Synthetic Haze Blue". Looking at original photographs, this color ranges from a hazy light-blue to grey-blue, depending on the angle of light. My best guess was Gunze H42 Grey-Blue for the upper sides and Medium Grey H53 for the undersides.
Mr T
Very nice model, I have the P322/Lightning boxing. As you say, it looks challenging, but are we modellers or kit assemblers?

Luis Alfonso
Hi My Friend Roman!!! Congratulations for this wonderful gem of a build, a real professional build with a hugely difficult kit. This one is a very challenging kit and yours is a proof that with a lot of love, elbow grease and patience is possible to reach the shores after a very stormy trip with rough seas and any class of problems on the way. I have heard a friend of mine that ussually imports here from Hannant's about this kit but even though he is a professional builder with a huge lot of time and models in his belt, he refused when another modeling pal from the other side of the pond warned him, and opted for a P-400 kit instead. I like a huge lot how you painted and weathered this bird, and in overall, the way how she looks very well ended. Thank you very much for sharing!!! Cheers, Luis Alfonso
Reini78
Once again lovely 1/72 work! Especially with this kit.... Recently my dad started the 1/48 RS Models Fokker, hope it will see the light of day too 😃
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello @Roman Schilhart ... I have had a look through a few of my books. I think and state this is only my opinion. I think “Shark” actually flew with the 7th Photo recon. Group, 13th photo recon squadron out of Mt. Farm. There colors were red spinners and seem to match other aircraft from there. Heres a photo of one of the 13th’s F-5’s with the 13th’s P51 escorts. Caption for this ⬆️ Photo. And the P-51 escorts. I think its a typo that shark flew with the 12th PRS. kapam
Awesome Lightning! I've coveted the RS Models kit for quite a while now, but never took the plunge. Judging by some commentaries you have done an awesome job to get it looking so perfect. 👍
