The Spadgent
Thanks guys for all the lovely comments. I have managed a little time at the bench this Saturday. Iets begin with masking.  here we are ready for the O.R  it took longer than I thought it would to do that. Once done I was about to pre shade when.   how did I miss that? So out with a little milliput.  all better. Smoothed with a little water and left to set. then pre shade.  all good.  then a light coat of olive drab.   waiiiiiiit a minute that's not olive drab!  Damn it I accidentally used the cockpit colour I had out.   right, not to worry I'll mix up a light olive drab mix to bring out the center panels.  then lightly spray over the top with a thinned olive drab.  That's better. let it all dry then off with the tape.  Nice. The over spray will be covered by the turbo chargers and the canopy overspray is in the T tape so no trouble there. I'm happy with that. Next the nose and the tail.  Thanks for looking in.  All the best and Happy Modelling guys. TheBaron
This is the one time I can say that is very drab work and know it won't be taken as an insult but a worthy compliment!  How are you finding the masking tape on the metal paint Johnny? I'm pondering what order to mask my own piece (eventually) but worried about lifting-off the silver if masking to spray colour.  It all seems to be working most excellently here! I didn't want to take any chances so I gloss Coated before masking. Then did the old "on hand first" trick. Worked well so far, I'll have to mask again when top coating for the second time.
Cookenbacher
I have to admit that I held my breath when I saw the masking on the metal finish, but there was nothing to worry about! Â What gloss coat did you use? The metal still looks metal.

The metal still looks metal. Well originally I used Vallejo metal varnish but it was rubbish and blocked my cheap air brush.  Then I used Tamiya mixed gloss, accidentally mixed with Mr Thinner instead of Mr leveling thinner.  I bought a gloss rattle can of Tamiya gloss so I'll prob use that next. It seemed to go fine on the vampire. Fingers crossed eh.   johnny bad back

The Spadgent
Thanks for all the lovely comments. I'm a little bit out of action at the mo as I have put my back out. lifting bags of slate in the garden this weekend.  Never mind lots of lying down and seeing what you guys are up to. I did manage to get some work done before that. first off I primed the tail fins and got the nose and main tail masked ready for colours.  I did a pre-shade using flat brown as to avoid the bruised banana effect.  Nose.  And tail.  Then a base coat of yellow.  yes, I know the nose is red but a base yellow brings out red a treat. then the tail got some attention.  another coat.  third time will be a charm. I'll show you when the masking is off. (such a tease) some red nose action then.  All looking good! Time to remove the mask! After a third coat the tail looked like this. I glued the fins in place.  The nose got un mummified.  yay! Not bad.  here she is all together.  before I gloss coat for decals I had a go at oil filters.  a bit subtle huh? It's the panel right in front of you, the middle one just after the wing tip. Slightly blue / brown? No? Ok the panel on the nacelle just off the wing on the front. Well I can see it. Maybe I'll darken them when my back gets better. hope you're all still enjoying the lightning. i had a look at the wheels too. They look rather spiffy. thankyou all for popping by. hope you have a great week. Take care and as always. Tomoshenko
Looking quite spiffy Johnny. Silver, red, yellow, green. Nice combination. Have you considered using pastels for weathering? Might be worth a try following a semi-matte coat of varnish after the transfers are on.

Victory-is-in-the-Kitchen
Niiiiice. Like the pre-shading on the yellow, I'll remember that one. You're going through my favourite time on builds; I love getting all the colours masked, then sprayed, then the big reveals! She's coming on a treat. Hope the backs not too painful
