Spence Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Hi everyone! Nothing new from me I'm afraid (I think that I've actually given up modelmaking, but no-one has bothered to let me know... ), but I thought that you would like to see a diorama that I collaborated on with my close friend Haris Ali. Designed as an experiment to see whether we could combine an aircraft in flight with a vehicle, this diorama depicting an encounter between the crew of a Crusader and a Storch carrying out a very low-level reconnaissance flight, the aircraft suddenly appearing over the edge of the ravine that the crew are sheltering under. As you can see, to keep the diorama reasonably small and also to force the idea, the aircraft has been dropped very close to the edge of the cliff - any higher and we felt that the idea would be less apparent. Sometimes with dioramas, you have to do this to get your point across, despite it being a little less realistic. Though I was responsible for the idea and the design and construction of the scenery, Haris built and painted everything else - thus showing off his ability to multi-task across both aircraft and armour modelling and build within both fields extremely well. I hope that you like our diorama and see that aircraft and armour can work together - and not just when they're on the ground! You'll be able to see this diorama as part of a special edition of MIS and also as part of our display at SMW in November. Spence - Who really is wondering where the next model is going to come from...
keefr22 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 That is seriously cool Spence!!! Verrrrrry nice indeed - it's instantly become one of my favourite dioramas!! Excellent stuff!! Keef
Stebos Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 That's really quite smashing! A question though, about the prop; it looks very believable, is it motorised or was a painted disc used?
AnonymousDFB1 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Beautiful, that diorama just works. Love it.
OzH Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Amazing! you can almost feel the suprise in the tank crew. Great models, well executed
Alan P Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 That is certainly the right way to pose a diorama, the eye naturally moves from the plane down to the tank and the figures all looking at the plane. Very nicely done. Alan
Rowan Broadbent Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 chindroppingly wonderful! Both in conception and realisation. Hats off to both of you!
Rich F Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Lovely, well thought out and original too. Spence
