This is the Airfix 1904 Mercedes kit from MANY years ago, although at 1962 it's later than most of the historic cars range.

Some reading and research reveals the 1903 Gordon Bennett road race held in Ireland. Previous races had been held from town to town across Europe, like Paris to Innesbruck😲

The previous year's event was won by a British entry, a Napier, being the only finisher. England had already set its face against road racing through towns and countryside but Ireland backed the idea and, for the first time the race was held on a closed circuit in an organised way around the town of Athy.

Mercedes suffered a fire that wrecked their race cars in preparation. Undaunted, they took back some of the production cars already sold, stripped them down, regeared and made ready to race.

3 entered and one took the win, beating the French favourites and everything else. It was the start of an epic involvement of Mercedes in motor racing.

Any way, here is the stripped down Mercedes Simplex 60hp race winner driven by the Belgian Camille Jenatzy around the roads of Athy for the 1903 Gordon Bennett race.

The build was well advanced and sitting on the shelf waiting for the final flourishes when the shelf and all its contents took a serious knock! 😱

So I'm pleased to finally get this to the finishing line after some running repairs and remedial work.

Yayy...... 😇☑️‼️

Jaguar 420

This is the soon to be re-released 1/32 Airfix kit (although mine was an American MPC boxing).

Built OOB, it was an enjoyable kit but let down slightly by poor quality clear parts.

It's finished in Alclad 'Steel' with a couple of brush painted Klear top coats.

The build thread is here, if you would like to see more.

1/48 scale Hawker Siddeley Andover CC1

One Man Model. 3D printed kit

This is my first 3D printed kit so was a bit of a learning curve. A lot time was spent in parts preparation sanding down the squared off surfaces. No instructions were included as these are downloadable from the internet, but otherwise the kit was very comprehensive. A full interior is included with an excellent cockpit, flight engineers station and a full set of paratroop seats along each side. Brass rod, plastic strip and bamboo rods are included along with wet and dry paper and a comprehensive set of stickers. Not decals, stickers.  Options include open and closed access doors and cargo ramp as well as standing and kneeling main under carriage legs. Most parts had a rough sheen to them but the worst were the propellers which were quite lumpy!

Some parts still needed to come from the parts bin.

I used the stickers as masks so all numbers and lettering is actually painted on. National Insignia and rescue arrows are decals from stock.

Thanks to @Brad for moderating and running the GB. To Dave Stewart in New Zealand for thr definitive camouflage pattern and

Thanks to @Romeo Alpha Yankee and others for the comments along the build.

It was a long journey but the motivation to hit the deadline kept me going!

FineMolds'  1/48 Karigane (Ki-15 prototype), purchased by the newspaper Asahi Shimbun in 1937.

The aircraft was used for PR, and famously made the trip from Japan to Croydon, London in a record setting time for a single-engined aircraft.
OOB built - barely needs extra's.

AK RC Mitsubishi Interior green, AK Xtreme Metal Aluminium, Mr.Color Blue 328 (fs15050).

This group Build gave me an excuse to build an Airfix kit of the SRN4 that I have had since 1973. As it has travelled extensively with me I lost a few parts and bought another one in 2002 for spares.

I flew on the Princess Margaret in 1999 and have depicted this model in the 1999 livery. Decals weren't available so I made my own. Both kits vehicles are added as well as further vehicles and figures from ebay.

The Princess Margaret has since been scrapped and in a recent trip to the hovercraft museum I bought some seats from her. Here is my model sitting on those seats.

While working on my Airfix 1/144 scale SRN4 I found a Kelloggs "Six Inch" (1/370?) model. This snap together model of the Princess Margaret I did in Seaspeed livery from its early days.

Here she is sitting on a seat from the real Princess Margaret.

This is my version of the little Heller 1/24 Ferguson tractor, made to look like a very similar Steyr tractor I drove 30-odd years ago while working on a farm. Great fun. The model was in basic paint for over 2 months, and I finished it this weekend, rushing it but I'm quite happy with it.

Painted with Tamiya and Vallejo paints, weathered with oils, Vallejo washes and pigments.

Amelia's Lockheed Vega.

This is the Special Hobby kit of Amelia Earhart's Little Red Bus which she flew on several Firsts and Record flights.

Harbour Grace, Newfoundland to Derry, N. Ireland in May 1932, and then Los Angeles to Newark in August.

Transcontinental is a pretty epic flight for sure, but taking a single-engined little plane out across the Atlantic on your own takes a special kind of nerve.

Some tricky aspects to the kit, not least the assembly and alignment of the 3 legged u/c with wheels and spats.

But she's finally done and standing 😇

This is one of Jack Northrop's early designs, his is one of those names that crops up regularly when there's a design revolution happening.
