  1. Looking really good Julian - she's really taking shape now I'm going to have to get my skates on to try and get anywhere close to your progress - I'm the first to admit I'll never win any awards for 'getting on with it' lol Kris
  2. Thanks James and yes, it's well worth a try if you ever come up against something similar Kris
  3. Thanks @zebra I was in two minds to do the same to begin with as the end result won't really be seen but thought if nothing else it would be a good practice to see how well this worked πŸ‘ Kris
  4. Thanks Craig - much appreciated. Yes, I find that strange too, especially when on some parts of the kits the ejector pin marks seem well thought out and hidden when put together and then on other parts it's like they've just stuck them anywhere Kris
  5. Hi Craig, Really sorry for your loss - it must be hard not having your modelling companion with you What a fitting tribute though to dedicate your build to her πŸ‘ Your Mossie is looking superb so far and I particularly love what you've done on the landing gear - at first glance I thought it was a photograph of some landing gear as the wheels in particular looked so realistic Will be following with interest and looking forward to the end result Kris
  6. Hi folks, So more progress made today by getting the Tamiya XF-71 on all the interior parts which will allow me to start on the the detail painting and weathering and then I can bring the fuselage together: One of the things I've noticed in the kit is that there are a number of ejector pin marks in some awkward places - mainly between framing on the fuselage parts which would be nigh on impossible to sand out or even fill and sand. There 's a few marks on the fuselage halves and a hell of a lot on the roof section of the fuselage (as you can tell in the pic below). Whilst the fuselage side pin marks would be easily seen, the roof would be obscured but I still thought it best to try and get rid of them. Therefore, I tried a different method that some of you may have done before (so not going to try and patent it ) which was fairly successful. I decided to use pieces of masking tape that have been cut (like you would when masking a canopy using a scalpel) to fit the individual frames - as you can see here: Then once painted up, you've got something that looks like this: It's by no means perfect but a much quicker and easier solution to sorting out difficult ejector pin marks and leaves you with a much better finish than just leaving them there as they were. Just wanted to share that little tip with you in case it's of use to any of you in your future builds. So next step is detail painting and beginning to bring the fuselage together πŸ‘ Hope to have another update for you soon Thanks Kris
  7. That's all looking the part now Julian - great progress I'm creeping up slowly behind you to get to the stage of getting some interior green on my interior parts. Nice to see that we're representing the commonwealth by you doing a Canadian version and me doing an Australian one πŸ‘ Kris
  8. I think you're doing a great job so far Jes and the kit is well worth persevering with in my opinion. I had some of the same issues that you're having but with a bit of patience and time I think it builds up into a really nice little model and is probably one of my favourites in my cabinet. If it's of any help or inspiration to you at all, here's a link to my rendition of the kit as a Soviet SB 2M-100A, which, if I'm not mistaken, is the same as the licence built Avia B-71. Looking forward to seeing your progress as you go along Kris
  9. I think so too James - changing the plastic has helped to stop some of the details being a little soft so I'm really impressed πŸ‘Œ
  10. Thanks James and yes, definitely a lovely kit. I think the new plastic from Airfix really makes all the difference too as the parts and details are much more crisp and refined 😁
  11. Thanks @zebra Glad to hear you're enjoying your kit too - I know I'm loving every minute so far
  12. Hiya folks, I've been spending the past couple of days on and off gluing plastic to plastic and have made a fair amount of progress. The main cockpit parts are starting to take shape as you can see here with the additions of the control column, port side framing and wing spar : The fit of the parts as well as the detail is superb. I love Airfix kits, my stash is pretty much taken over by Airfix and their latest kits just keep getting better and better - love it The main instrument panel and seats have also been put together... …and then finally I've made a start on the fuselage halves and have glued in the separate side pieces which provide additional details on each half: I'm trying to pull things together in sub-assemblies and thinking ahead about painting all the time. I'm wanting to get as much ready for the interior green as possible and then glue in the additional parts that require further painting afterwards such as the instrument panel, seats and also the radio/instruments which are yet to come. I'm trying to make it as easy as possible because the danger is you glue everything in and paint it interior green but then you make it less accessible for detail painting later on. That's my plan anyway🀞 I'm hoping my next update will be to show you what she's starting to look like once the interior green has been put down and when there's a bit more interest with the additional detail paintingπŸ‘ Best wishes Kris
  13. Off to a good start James As I mentioned previously, I've built the Eduard kit but not the Airfix kit so looking forward to seeing how this one turns out - especially in the Trop scheme 😁 Kris
  14. Thanks James - that's much appreciated I definitely wouldn't put you off doing the green scheme with the shark mouth but obviously the choice is yours 😁 Kris
  15. Thanks very much @modelling minion - that's very kind of you πŸ‘
  16. Hey James, Fantastic choice to go for a Bf 110 - definitely one of my favourite Luftwaffe aircraft types and I love both schemes you have on offer Funnily enough, I built the Eduard kit that you have mentioned above and it was a fantastic kit and I really loved the more unusual colour scheme - I mean who doesn't love a shark-mouth If it will provide you with any inspiration or any help at all, here's the link to my build which was an entry to a previous GB back in 2018. Good luck with this one James - I'll be pulling up a pew to follow your progress Best wishes Kris
  17. Thanks @Wings unlevel - hopefully I'll be able to do it some justice representing an aircraft operating from your home nation
  18. Thanks George - that's what I'm hoping for anyway and thought it would be a nice change of pace from the usual RAF camouflage
  19. Thanks James - hopefully it's a case of great minds think alike
  20. Thanks very much @modelling minion I'll be pretty much building OOB on this one although I do intend to get a mask set for the canopy glazing as I don't fancy doing all that by hand Fingers crossed I can do the model some justice and also get it finished on time as that's never my strong point🀞 Kris
  21. Hi folks, Please can you count me in for this GB as it will be the perfect excuse to build this: Cheers Kris
  22. Hi folks, hope everyone is keeping well and keeping warm. It's bloody cold up in Cumbria at the moment I can tell you!!! To keep myself busy and get warmed up, I've been busy getting everything painted up and sorted for the cockpit in readiness for getting the fuselage halves closed up and then being able to crack on with the rest of the build. So here's where I am at the moment: Everything is OOB other than scratching up some seatbelts from a mixture of Tamiya tape and some photoetch parts. They're not 100% accurate for a P-47 but at least they're better than nothing Enjoying this one so far - not a bad little kit and the detail is fairly good - at least for 1/72 scale. Hopefully for my next post - there'll be a fully completed P-47 fuselage with wings and horizontal stabilisers attached. I've also got the the bombs, drop tank and rocket tubes glued together while I was waiting for the paint to dry on the cockpit so will show you those next time too Take care everyone and keep up the good work Kris
  23. So I've made a start and started to get some bits put together. The cockpit is coming together and next steps will be to paint it up and to add a seatbelt to the seat and the main engine components have been glued together also: I've also made a start on the wings and have got the upper and lower sections glued together and left them to set up before I'll sand all the edges smooth. A quick fix to easily bring up the level of detail was to drill out the machine guns so they look more like guns rather than solid poles: I'll continue working on the cockpit and then the two fuselage halves and get everything painted up - which should hopefully be my next update Kris
  24. Thanks very much @Corsairfoxfouruncle - hopefully I'll be able to get it over the finish line 🏁 Kris
  25. Hi folks, I'm late to the party with this one I'm afraid. Times just got away from me and this STGB had crept up without me realising. Anyway, thank you to @Corsairfoxfouruncle and @81-er for the greenlight to throw my hat into the ring as I really wanted to enter something into this GB as the P-47 is one of my favourite warbirds. So after a root around in my stash, I decided to go for this one: I've made a start and good progress so far - pics to follow shortly. Hopefully I'll be able to get cracking and be able to get her finished in time as I'm not renowned for being the quickest of builders 🀞 Good luck to everyone with their builds too - looking forward to seeing them all in the gallery. Kris
