MODeller Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Hi all, Here is the latest Ripple creation using the Mach 2 700 Viscount. I have stretched it to make an 800 series as flown by the Royal Radar Establishment. The radar pod and wing tanks were scratchbuilt from plasticard and epoxy putty. Painted in Xtracrylics and Revell Aqua. A model that fought back every inch of the way, really pleased (and suprised) to get this one finished! All comments welcome, MODeller 1
AnonymousFO98 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 no ideas about accuracy issues, but congrats on the build and the scratching excellent job never saw a Viscount like it before and saw plenty going in and out of Elmdon- itza beauty!
Mike Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Looks good, and knowing that it's a Mach 2 kit, I feel your pain
keith in the uk Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Wow , now that is a surpurb build , just goes to show if you stick to it you will get there in the end. The work painting the props alone deserves a medal . 10/ 10
John B (Sc) Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 That is super stuff, Mod. Having had a try at Mach kits I am impressed - I'm not surprised you said it fought back! . That was a superb colour scheme. One query. Those very nicely painted props seem to have squared off tips. My recollection of BEA Viscounts from many years ago was of fairly rounded prop tips, whereas the Vanguard had quite markedly square tipped props. Was there a later mod on some Viscounts or alternate props, or is it my memory? Cheers, John B

Cheers, John B Hi John, Thanks for the comments.I have gone back through my references and found that cerainly the early versions had rounded tip blades but most photos are of square tipped ones. Possibly tied in with the various engine upgrades, the Fokker F-27 also can be found with both styles so I figure it was down to the particular Mk of Dart fitted. MODeller
speedy Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Yo, that looks brilliant mate. Well done as its looks great. Should be in touch soon.............
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Nice! I plan building a RAAF-800 soon. It looks fabulous in those ripple colours!
keefr22 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 That's a very nice build of a difficult kit MOD, great job! The pods are very neatly done to, & as usual your ripple finish is lovely! MODeller There was a discussion on this topic in relation to DC-7's on the Yahoo airliner modelling group recently. This was the reason posted; "C-130 props have square tips yet the P-3 has round tips with the same engine. I asked a Hamilton Standard prop tech rep and he said the difference is the square tips provide better heavy lift while the round tips are better for cruising" Keith
Dave Fleming Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Very nice. I have the SM kit to do one in 1/144th, but the radome is putting me off!
The wooksta V2.0 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Wow! Fantastic, all the more so with the base kit being Mach 2....

That is interesting. One of the fine things about this site - and modelling - is that you learn about real aviation & aeroplanes too ! John B

The discussion on the other group started with that aircraft, but the reply about the C-130 & P-3 summed up all the replies best. Sorry for any confusion! Keef
