      DDoS and Brute Force Attacks   09/18/2016

      From the day following upgrade to the new forum software, 15th Sept until the 19th, we were under a concerted attack by a person or persons using a number of 'bots and other people's Proxy networks to carry out what is called a Distributed Denial of Service attack, which is a method by which these 'bots submit thousands of requests to the website per second to overload the server and bring the site to its knees.  While this was going on, they were also making Brute Force attacks on our remote communications port to try and breach the server so they could do anything from format the hard drives to change ownership of the site, and bombarding the mailserver with similar bogus requests, some of which left some rather telling details behind.  This was followed up a couple of days later with a further attack that left more data to sift through, which we have passed on to our IT forensics people.On the advice of our Lawyer and fellow member JohnT, we yesterday informed the National Crime Agency and requested their assistance with the matter, and in an ongoing dialogue with them to find the culprits, so we are allowing them access to the server and its logs.    We don't believe that this is a random attack on balance, but for 5 days and a further evening we had to put up with some disturbance and interruption to the usually fast response of the website as we are seeing now that the attack has ended.  We will prevail, and don't worry about it.  We were the target, and these people will not win.  Karma will catch up with them   Mike, Greg, Dave & Julien.

Once in a while its a good thing to go to stash and select something on a whim. Take it out and just build it without getting tied up in knots about planning, research, finding etch sets, decals, improvemnets, etc etc. Just reconnect with the fun of building, open the box and crack on!

One of my all time favourite aircraft is the P-51, and one of my all time favourite kits is Tamiya's P-51, so out of the stash it came. If you have never built one of these, you are missing a treat. It goes together beautifully and is a pleasure to build.

I chose 'Shangri-La' flown by Captain Don Gentile of 336 Fighter Squadon, as I remember buliding Revells 1:32 scale kit of the smae aircraft in the 1970's, and I like the 'boxing parrot' marking. I put the pilot in as I had no etched seat belts and he was a good way of covering that up!. The only aftermarket I added was s pair of True Details resin wheels as I happened to to have a spare set with nice block tread on. Other than that it is an 'out of the box' build.

After a simple, straightforward, fun build, 'Shangri-La' is now complete;

Lovely stuff! They're all very nicely done, I really like Shangri-la but the first NMF -D model is my personal fave.

I definitely know what you mean about cracking on with an OOB build, I'm looking forward to doing just that with my first Airfix Lightning next week.

Happy new year!

It is a great kit and you've done it proud. Looks like you had success with the decals as well - mine disintegrated as soon as they touched water!

Beautiful Shangri-la! Those subtle tone variations on the OD make all the difference on a monochrome livery.

Those other P-51s are not too bad, either… ;-)

Happy New Modelling Year!

Kind regards,

Joachim
