greggles.w Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Short Crusader 810hp / 604kw Bristol Mercury 1 Built for, but not entered into, the 1927 Schneider Trophy race in Venice Maximum quoted speed 270mph / 434kmh 1:48 resin kit by Karaya , with a few modifications; White metal pilot by Phoenix Figures, again with a few modifications; Resin Bristol Mercury (crankcase & half of one cylinder only!) by Vector; Timber plinth by Jim's Bases; 'Sea Blur' plinth graphic by Coastal Kits. A tortuous long-winded account of the build lives over here Can't believe it's done! Please forgive the mobile phone photography, my camera is .. somewhere in a box. 30
Jonners Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 At last! What a fantastic, unusual and well-displayed result. Definitely one to be proud of. Jon 1
RadMax8 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Glad to see you’re finally able to call this one done. So much work (and rework) went into this, I’m happy for you. Such a striking livery as well! Thanks for sharing your build, and the finished product. 1
Malc2 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Great finish, I like the offset stand, it adds to the illusion of flight. Great job, thanks for sharing and looking forward to following the Macchi (and Curtiss!) M. 1
DMC Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 A prize winner for sure. Excellent photography also. Really stands out. Dennis 1
malpaso Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Excellent model. I really like the dynamic aspect provided by the stand. 1
stevehnz Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Bloody wonderful. It's been a long road to travel on this one but worth every step, though your opinion may differ ? I've thoroughly enjoyed it & the anticipation as it approached finished was well rewarded. It looks fantastic. Steve. 1

fjaweijfopi4j48 Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Spectacular! Glad to see it in its flying glory! It was indeed a long journey, but worth every step (and jig!) Salutes! (Besides the smart stand, and given that it is a Crusader, could we have as background sound effect the clipetty-clop of a coconut-produced cavalcade?) 1
greggles.w Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 To all above, sincere thank you for your very generous comments. .. & yes @Moa the squire exits stage left, to clippty cloppity coconuts!
Horatio Gruntfuttock Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 That is just stunning! Well done . I have been wrestling with the Karaya 1/72 kit and I appreciate the enormous work you have done with this one - great stuff and an inspiration for me to get back to mine. 1
Bangor Lad Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Fantastic achievement! A stunning build from the Golden Age of aviation. The way you've displayed her sets off the build perfectly. Great work! 1
Fastcat Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Lots of often ingenious work but a great result and a really imaginative display. A brilliant model and totally unique! Dave 1
