Hi guys,

I've finally got round to building the Lanc that's been staring at me every time I walked into the garage. As I've spent the last year making airliner models and not made a military model for about 10 years, I was a little nervous about how good it would turn out. I've learnt lots reading the forums here since I joined so this was a bit of an experiment to put some of them learnings into practice and I'm quite pleased with the results. EDIT - new pictures added while I was making a better effort with the camera !!

The kit was made pretty much out of the box apart from QB gun barrels and a lil scratch building inside. Masking was done using one of those masking sets. This required some faith and alot of patience as I masked the cockpit up then stuck it in place and painted the kit. It was only towards the end did I know how successful the masking turned out and I can't praise the masks enough. The kit itself is a beautiful piece of engineering. Fit of the parts was superb and the only part that brought out any four letter words was fitting the undercarriage - big fingers and thin fiddly parts don't go together ! Painting was done using my trusty old Badger airbrush and borrowed (soon to be bought from Stringbag, thanks) compressor with Xtracolour enamels (Dark earth, Dark green & night black). The matt finish was done with the Humbrol matt varnish in a rattle tin which I love. Weathering was done using a water colour solution to bring out the panel lines followed by some pastel brushing to get her a bit dirty and break up the monotany of the black. I'm sorry for the quality of pictures, photography isn't one of my strong points !!

Anyway, enough burble....

Thanks Daz, sorry I forgot to add..... I chopped off a few of the bomb markings to represent it earlier on before coloured surfaces were applied. I'm sure someone will point out a mistake in my assumption, but I wanted to capture the classic look of an early MkI

Excellent looking lanc and the photos look great to my eyes. If you dont mind me asking, how did you do the exhaust staining? Cheers

Good stuff! I'm just about to paint mine hope it looks as good as that! The Quickboost barrels are a must though aren't they!

Thanks. I used black, white and reddish brown dry pastel sticks that I rub onto a piece of sandpaper then simply rub a paint brush into the residue and brush it on. I did this post varnish, as spraying varnish over the pastel seems to hide it somewhat, but once on, it pretty much stays even though it's not technically 'permanent'

Stoohoo, I agree, the kit barrels are probably the only let down of the kit, these QB ones are superb.

I really like the Hasegawa Lanc with the lifeboat underneath, but don't want to pay that much for the kit. Does anyone know of you can get a boat to stick on the revell kit ? I'd love to build another one to contrast the classic look of the night bomber.

Very nice work. The only issue I have is that it looks like the tait turret guns have been installed wrong way around. The inner guns should be lower than the outers.

Poo, I knew something didn't quite look right. I'll pull them off and reposition them. Thanks for that.

I nearly got done by that with mine but found a piccy like that before i assembled them, it's those bloomin' drawn Revell instructions! They're not really good enough are they considering the quality of the kit!

That's a cool model mate. I like the weathering and the rattle can matt varnish.

More please!

Very,very nice.

I think you've caught the look of a faded Mk1 nicely there.

The guns are s***e and the wheels are pantaloons too, shame because those two things alone spoil

what is a really nice OOB model.

I must get on and finish mine before too long(JO*U/RF141 "Uncle Joe Again).

Mine's really filthy and faded and should be sat on a dispersal pan when it's finished.

Nice one Neil. It doesn't look as though airliner models have taken the edge off your skills at all.

See ya soon Matey.

Thanks for the comments guys. Miggers, I might add some more weathering yet, as the pictures I have show these kites to look battered. Some paint chipping and perhaps some new main wheels would do it justice.

Chris, the clear bits were my biggest fear, but Klear provided the magic ! See you at Telford - don't forget a mobile LOL

Looks good.

I'm currently (and slowly) building a Tamiya 1/48 Lanc.

I must say that the colours look good, I've never used the Xtracrylic before, how did you find them to airbrush/how do you thin them etc..?

I used Xtracolour, not Xtracrylic. I've had a little dabble with acrylics and never got the hang of them, so stuck with enamels. If it aint broke, don't fix it LOL

I'm really liking this, I had the revell Lanc in my hand this morning in Hobbycraft, I wish I had bought it now;)
