  1. Possible can of worms opening here. What colour were the upkeep mines? I always thought they were dark red/primer as per the German report. But Airfix say Dark Green, Tamiya say Black, HK Models say Olive Drab. Also, Airfix have two coloured bands. 🤔
  2. Also.... What is going on with the top of the tail fin itself. The Tornado has a rather sharp tail fin... Even the IDS versions.. How did Revell get this do wrong.? And don't get me started on the rear CRT screens
  3. I did spot the mistake with regards you the tail fin ECM. I must admit though, I have the new gr4 kit but haven't checked if the instructions are correct on this kit. Out of interest how do I go about getting the missing clear part.?
  4. Hi guys. I picked up a casting kit from Sylmasta at Telford and now new to buy some more RTV rubber. I've looked at there website and they do 3 x different grades 370 - 380 & 390 What's the difference and do the different grades have advantages or disadvantages over each-other.? I've never tried casting till recently and I'm struggling with air bubbles in the RTV mould. I've tried to make copies of a few 1/48 wheels and would like to have a go at copying some 1/48 fuel drop tanks. Any advice on the rubber grades or advice in general would be much appreciated Is the Sylmasta rubber any good or would you guys recommend another brand.? Many Thanks Tony
  5. Hi guys. Just a quick one. Does anybody have a good suggestion for a colour for the harnesses for my GR.1 tornado... They're a funny olive/gold/brown. If somebody makes an out the pot colour this would be great as I'm colour blind and therfore find mixing and blending colours to photos. Many thanks Tony
  6. Thanks for all the helps guys, thanks Muzz... I wasn't aware about the centre pylon not being fitted early on. Not overly keen on the sea eagle option but I'm now not sure about Pageboys or 1000lb bombs. Also should I opt for the flightpath large fuel tanks.? I am Mr. Indecisive. Tony
  7. Hi guys. Another Tornado question, I'm in the (slow) progress of making the Revell 1/48 tornado as an RAF Gr.1 I'm not sure though to what to hang underneath it, I've got the correct raf pylons from Shaun and 3 were supplied, I've ordered some decsls from Hannants and think I'm going to go for a 617 sqn Gr.1 Would these of had all three belly pylons fitted and what would they of carried. I like the idea of the heavy look so a couple of Pageboys sound good or would these of just carried standard bombs.? Also should I fit the kit supplied missiles to the side of the inner wing pylons.? Thanks as ever Tony.
  8. Thanks Guys. I have had a play with some light/bright olive green Vallejo Model air mixed with some gloss black and its looking pretty promising. Tony
  9. Not sure if this is in the correct section but does anybody have a good way to paint / represent the green screens in cockpits I know they aren't all that green and bright when switched off but I'd still like them to have a dark green tint to them. Could I use some gloss varnish and a drop of Tamiya clear green maybe.? Many thanks Tony
  10. Thank you everybody, that has all helped a great deal. Tony
  11. OK. I'm currently building Revell's 1/48 IDS Tornado but building it as an RAF Gr.1 I've got a few after-market bits including the Big Ed set. Eduard's instructions say to fit various bits to the FRONT landing gear... it says to fit parts that aren't include din the kit referring to the torque link.. or in this case the torque linkS I've had a look on-line and it would appear that the Tornado did have different front landing gear So what I am unsure of is do I fit just the one torque link or two.? If it makes any difference, I've been looking around at after-market decals and I think I may have decided to go for a green / grey 617 Squadron as they have one at RAF Hendon which really caught my eye but thanks to computer issues I have lost a lot of photos.. including the ones from Hendon Examples of what I'm talking about are below With two Torque links https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5533/10737685215_012058daf0_b.jpg With one torque link http://www.b-domke.de/AviationImages/Tornado/21617.html Thanks in advance Tony
  12. Thanks for all the replies guys, not sure if it makes a difference but I'm building a GR.1 version with the wrap around Green & Grey..
  13. Just a quick one (possibly) I've started clipping the sprues of Revell's 1/48 Tornado IDS, I've gone all out with Edwards big Ed set, Neomagas Gr.1 cockpit and the correct RAF pylons and wing seals from Sean. Now... Revell's instructions aren't really there string point, as good as the kit looks I'd like to just check a couple of colours as it seems Revell say to use the nearest color they make to suit the colour needed and I'm not a fan of mixing colours. So.. Are the wheel Wells and undercarriage the same colour.? It would seem the the undercarriage and Wells are a very light grey and not white as a lot of people think. The insides and undersides of the air breaks are white The cockpit interior looks to be medium sea grey with black anti slip floor. Do the colours above seem to be correct Revell quote 371 for the undercarriage and wheel Wells.. Is this the best colour to use our is there something more correct.? Many thanks Tony
  14. Thanks for the reply Muzz, I've found your build and had a read through it... Very nice and also very helpful. I like the look of those wing seals so I think I'm going to have to see if Sean has any more at the moment. Tony
  15. Hi guys. Having recently stumbling across an inbox review of the recent Revell 1/48 Tornado IDS version I found one on eBay for not much more than £15 so clicked buy it now without giving it a second thought. Whilst I was waiting for it to arrive a started looking at after-market bits and pieces (as you do) with the aim to convert it to a Gr.1 RAF version with the full grey green camo, but it would appear that this isn't possible from the box.? I'm a big fan of the Tornado but don't know much about it from a detailed point of view, so... What will be needed to convert this Revell IDS to an RAF example.. I notice that there are a couple of unused items on the sprues and talk of a Gr.4 release from Revell in the near future.? I'll probably pick up the new release when it does get released and do a nice Gr.4 in grey but for now I'd like a 1/48 Gr.1 The parts that are included but not used are (as far as I can see) are .. The small fins for the tail .. Possibly the pods which go under the cockpit.? (will only one be needed) What I can see that isn't included are.. .. Some Reconnaissance windows.? .. Doesn't seem to be any RAF looking bombs.? .. I've also read that the pylons are different on RAF versions.? I've read that a member on here has produced some resin pylons and also some wing seals.? and if all this isn't enough I'm still in two minds weather to just paint the cockpit, get an Eduard set or opt for the Neomaga resin cockpit.?? Sorry for the long post but I'm more of a Spitfire & Hurricane man but couldn't resist this Tornado Many Thanks Tony
