russ c Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Howdy all, Finally got around to having a go at Airfix`s 1/48 P-40B kit, so thought I`d better inflict some photo`s on you Finished in the markings of an ex AVG Hawk at the time it was becoming the 74thFS/23rdFG USAAF and with the later style of `Flying Tiger` marking. Built as usual pretty much OOB, but replaced the gun barrels with metal tube Secondly, I bent the propeller blades to give them less pitch as I always thought they look a bit narrow Also added some etched seat belts, ring and bead gun sight, brake pipes from bits of wire and aerial wires from black thread Corrected the rudder hinge with some wire bent into shape and filed a bit thinner When I first opened the box I thought the breakdown of the parts was going to make for a tricky build but it goes together very well, I thought The markings came from a Sky Decals set and the kit Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ 55 3 1 1
Navy Bird Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Very nicely done. I have the Airfix 1:72 kit of the P-40B and it's been languishing in my stash ever since it came out. Maybe I should build it. Cheers, Bill 1
georgeusa Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Excellent build and finish of this kit. Looks great. Thanks for sharing. 1

ForestFan Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Looks great, for a kit u can get relatively cheaply, especially second hand, I think it builds up very well 1
kapam Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Exemplary work! The subtle shade variations & staining are something I keep aiming at (with varying degrees of success). Great work by you, as always! 👏👏👏 1

russ c Posted November 23, 2024 Author Posted November 23, 2024 9 hours ago, Low flyer said: Fantastic Build Russ Which paint did you use? Thanks, all Humbrol enamels, 116 for the dark green, 29 for the dark earth and 28 for the grey. I weathered them with 155 ( olive drab ) 118 ( tan ) and 196 ( light grey ) respectively by dry brushing. Cheers Russ
