Just so nobody feels lonely building a Matchbox Phantom, I'm going with this even older relic,,,

so will have some fun with the Airfix kit, spruce her up a little and just have some fun really!

This sounds like a spin-off from the Obsolete Kit GB of a couple of years ago! I hope you and Tim have fun with your obsolete kits. Fun is what it's all about!

And now you've put me in the mood, I might be considering my own obsolete kit...

Hi guys,

I only just saw this, looks great. I would like to join with a F-4F special scheme, http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/airshow01/hopsten/15s.jpg

Only problem is, what are the rules for how much you have built already? I have started a little on the cockpits and flaps already so would this not be acceptable?

Best regards,

David.

The general rule for group builds is that a part built kit cannot be more than 25% complete for it to be able to be included in the build. By the sounds of it you are well under that limit, but if you could PM me with a couple of pics I'm sure we can work out what's what. ;)

I have a boat-load of Spooks, the tough part is figuring out which one to build. Maybe this one:

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/120630-fujimi-34001-british-phantom

Or perhaps this one:

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/228118-hasegawa-00067-f-4s-phantom-ii

Don't suggest building both! :):)

Cheers,

Bill

Here is my Obsolete Kit entry for this GB. The box is battered but the kit parts are all intact. This qualifies as an Old Friend as it has been in The Stash since 1985, bought shortly after the kit was released.

Ok, I'll refrain from suggesting both... personally I'd go for the USMC F-4S, this is so colourful that puts some special schemes to shame !

It may be old, but the Monogram kit is still excellent. Take the same kit, add recessed panel lines instead of raised and you have a kit that can easily compete with more modern opposition

I agree. Another (minor) issue is that the lower part of the seats are moulded in with the cockpit tub so one cannot replace the seats without major surgery.

I will be building this OOB. I won't be attempting to rescribe the panel lines as it seems a shame to do so. I shall be building the kit as it was meant to be built. The decals aren't the best, so I shall get the markings and stencils from generic sheets but I'll use the kit sheet for the squadron markings. Only time will tell if they work.

I would take part in this as I've just ordered an Eduard Bicentenial Phantoms kit. But with my Wedding in the next couple of weeks and then Honeymoon I don't think I'll have time. Plus I need to finish the F-14a I have on the go first.

And I had already been married for ten years, been working for ten years, my son was three, and my oldest daughter was on the way. Now my son works at the NSA and my oldest daughter does orthopedic surgery. I think I'm getting old...

Any 'Black Mike' experts - pictures I have seen show AIM9's and AIM7's fitted, also some completely clean including no Sidewinder stores rail. some just the rail.

Never seemed to carry tanks.

Am thinking keep it simple and a clean build - am wanting to weather the back end a bit so its as it was whilst in service and of course will be in flight as ever!

Any comments welcome.

Still toying with the 1/48.......F4G from Spang in maybe the Euro 1 or the FG1 in grey or indeed camo......

Has this come round already? That,s caught me on the hop, well here,s Julien,s review of the kit I got as a present for Christmas if I don,t do it for this

GB it will probably sit in the wardrobe forever and as it was a gift from SWMBO that,s just not on.I had considered getting some AM decals but to be

honest I cannot bring myself to shell out twenty Quid for what,s out there so better get some Orange paint tomorrow and you know it might be a bit of

an eye catcher in the box scheme,if you pass a church Light a candle for me!

Was going to be building an Alcock & Brown but have decided to keep that till the centenary. So will be building a 1/72 Fujimi F-4M picked up at yeovilton for £12:50. ( closest to £13 I had in my pocket at the time).

All over grey, probably not as everything looks cool in a cammo wrap.

Also have another cheeky spook to build, unsure of scale but It will be.................

eggsciting!

OK, that makes two votes (counting Giorgio). The F-4S it is! :):)

I was a little concerned about the markings, as Hasegawa provide all the blue areas (tail, spine, radome) as a decal. Knowing Hasegawa decals as I do, that just looks like trouble. But having a closer look at the decal sheet, they also provide the option of having you paint the blue, and then add the squadron codes, the pitchforks, and all those little stars separately. I like that idea a lot better.

Cheers,

Bill
