ghaynes Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) This has been a glacial build. Started when first released by Airfix in 1993/94 (I think?) and finished last night. The path to completion has been one of change to say the least. It was initially destined to have folded wings, grey/green camo then later desert pink and I've lost count how many times I changed wing tips before settling on a scheme I liked. Now it's finished I'm still not sure I like the one I ended up doing! I used the Airwaves wing fold set then removed it when I decided to have the wings extended. I bought three different decal sheets before settling on the recent release from Model Alliance. Also used was the Neomega cockpit, Airwaves etch set, Heritage intakes, Paragon flaps and weighted wheels. Have still got to scratch some jet pipe covers to match the intake covers. Anyway, here's a couple of pics for now. Will take some better ones in the daylight! Time for a beer! Regards. Graham Edited February 3, 2010 by ghaynes
Mark M Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 it was well worth the wait she looks good to me!! i hope mine turns out that well
Buzby061 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 That's superb, unusual scheme & it really looks the part. Chuck the pictures of the wife & kids off the mantelpiece & put that in pride of place! I bought my Bucc around the same time & still remember the excitement when I got it home, followed by the sinking feeling when I started putting it together. It's Bucc shaped now, give it another 16 years. Pete
timbo33 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Nice work. I don't usually get very excited about aeroplanes without rotating whirry things at the front so it's a testimony that this got my attention. Now that you've finished this, what have you got lined up for the next 16 years?
ghaynes Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 I still have this to finish! The reason this one took 16 years to complete is that I kept starting other builds. That's an unfortunate habit I can't get rid of. Regards. Graham Nice work. Dave Fleming Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Nice. I remember seeing her at low level in the Highlands just a few days before she crashed.

Graham I know the feeling....Until I saw your post I was feeling frustrated by the Dakota I started a year ago for the D-Day GB and which is just now nearing completion after almost as many changes of guise as your Bucc... Whilst trying to finish that I've started and finished Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, a Desert Spitfire Vb and started a Boeing P-26 and a Miles Magister . The P-38J and Douglas Boston III I already had on the go got rushed and given to my grandson (who think's they're brilliant ). Still, if we weren't modelling we'd only be down the Pub drinking smoking and whoreing...
stringbag Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Sweeeet Well I hve to agree with TonyT even though he doesn't like Welshmen Very nice Brick indeed. Chris.the troglodyte. (Apparently) LOL

Hughgos hobby bench Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Why the toned down version after all that time ?? The original paint job looked so much better ..IMHO... good job all the same. Hugh.

Martian Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Magnificent model but bloody hell! I thought I was slow! Martin
Irishgreek Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Looks great! I laughed at the 'Time for a beer' comment. Told my wife about it and her response was "I can see you taking 16 years to finish one too!"
ghaynes Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 I like that very much!!!pardon my iggerance. Is it 1/72 or 1/48? Sorry Murdo, it's 1/48. Regards. Graham

Hugh, Can you get decals for that version of the scheme? I've only ever seen photos without the blue (but you can see in some where it has been overpainted). Regards. Graham

Hughgos hobby bench Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Dave,Do you know if she was still in this scheme when she crashed? Regards. Graham She was indeed in that scheme when she crashed Graham, Im sure that the original decals were available i will have a looky ont tinternet. The original scheme was applied in 1991 at Abingdon but it did not meet with approval from the powers that be so it was toned down.
ghaynes Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Thanks Sky Pirate! This photo here is a different variation again. You can see where the blue spine has been overpainted and the 208 Sqn badge on the intake is a different size to those on both our models! Regards.
