  1. Tour SSN has turned our well, For a minute there I thought you might have mucked it up! But no good work well done
  2. The MR4 airframes will be stripped down to bare metal and anything that will be environmentally damaging will be removed . The airframes will then be dumped at sea along with the soon to be withdrawn Tornado GR4s to make an artificial reef. I know a mate told me down the pub.....................
  3. Tony I think the Tristar incident was before my time there but i had heard about it. It just goes to show how over engineered the VC10 was that they could take a lot of punishment, nothing really wrong with the airframes some are slightly bent and the end would have come soon enough before the bean counters decided it was not worth the huge expense admittedly to bring them up to civil aviation standard, the Conways would have done for them what with the sourcing of spares and Rolls Royce wanting them binned.
  4. XV 109 was my favorite airframe Tony. She had a heavy landing on a base trainer about 10 years ago and ended up in the shed with an endoscope up her backside. But she came out flew on a shakedown and promptly went U/S in Belize. All the fuses had shaken loose and were corroded and she had one hell of a hydraulic leak to her B system. All in all five full days for the poor GE and SVC to sort out. Yes I was sipping G+Ts by the pool
  5. X Ray Romeo 808 affectionately known as BOB.
  6. Sad day today boys and girls. 101 Sqn has retired 2 VC10 C1MKs to Bruntingthorpe today. I served on the fleet for 12 years and have very fond memories of the old girl. I believe the airframes are XR 807 XR 808 Regards Mark
  7. Joey hi, yes is the answer to your question. You can see a slight variation in the hull line that's because the Vanguard class are covered in rubber tiles. I used an overall satin black on mine and used a thin coat of clear for the top half of the hull to get the desired effect. I hope this helps Mark
  8. Hello all, I wonder if you armour nuts out there could help me. I have just completed the AFV 1/35 Scorpion to represent the RAF St Mawgan version that was used as an EOD wagon. The problem? The problem are the tracks that came with the model, they are far to short and look awful on the model. Can anyone tell me were i can get a good set; I know Friul do a set but could you good folks recommend an other manufacturer or a good model shop i can order a set from. Many thanks Mark
  9. Sorry Bexy, I am sure you will do a better job than me
  10. Congratulations on finishing an excellent model.
  11. If its the right system and the best out there then it does not matter who has won the contract. You will find in this day and age nothing is truly American, British or otherwise. Its a global parts bin. For once it would be nice to see an equipment programme delivered on time and on budget and with enough of it to do the job.
  12. Try Gator glue its strong when set and dries clear
  13. Bomber Harris [butcher] When you do eventually get around to building it mate dry fit the turret it is not a very good fit the side panniers are as I said a pig. Regards Mark
  14. Thanks for the comments guys and I am even getting the hang of my airbrush
  15. Oh poo Phil I was looking forward to this one. I love your builds regards Mark
  16. Nice build I used promodellers wash to give it that in action used look, I found the turret a pig to construct but I persevered without resorting to Accurate Armours version which was just to expensive and anyway I am not a pro. Mark
  17. Very nicely presented I like the base, out of interest what did you use for the sea effect
  18. Its an old kit mate I built one a couple of weeks ago and posted on this site somewhere It's a great kit and yes there are a few inaccuracies but nothing huge.
  19. Yes they were pigs around corners I was in Ascension during the 80s and the crews lost 2 in as many days
