TheBaron
Not sure about 'freehand' but I suspect they'll be calling you Cool Hand Cookie from now on after that superlative camo spray. Lovely work. 2

Have a great trip to SA and most of all enjoy the subsequent family time! Thank you Terry, they were both great trips - here's a pic I snapped of a waterfall in Colorado that we hiked down to (and then a second time when more folks wanted to see it!) Thanks folks, it took quite a bit of practice, but it has allowed new levels of laziness in the end! On 6/12/2022 at 1:41 AM, bigbadbadge said: Looks good Cookie, great work Thank you Chris! I haven't gotten back to these yet - I'm supposed travel to Los Angeles next week for work and I'm planning on seeing my aunt and uncle while I'm there. The last few times I've seen my uncle, he's mentioned how much he likes the Corsair - I finally got the hint and am building him one. It's a quick turnaround on this guy with just two weeks to get it done: It's gonna come down to the wire I think.

And doing an excellent paint job, it would seem! Glad you had a great time in SA and in Colorado with the family, Cookie! Ciao 1

Cookenbacher
The Corsair is done! The RFI is here, if you're interested: I'm planning on returning to Seattle next weekend, and normal Kosciuszko service should resume.

Great work Cookie, The Mustang is a beaut, the Hurricane is looking really good & the Corsair, so casually done, so flipping marvellous, is there no end to your talents? Cookenbacher
Thanks for the kind comments everyone! Phew, time to do some work on the Hurricane. I 'printed' a few sheets of stencils with my Silhouette Portrait - it took a few goes because I kept forgetting things and would have to print another. Oh well, plenty of spares! That may be a good thing as the 1/72 serial numbers seem to be about as small as the Portrait can go and the blade itself kind of left them in disarray. I decided to just work from outside in this time - so first off would be yellow on the fuselage roundels. And then blue White Finally, Red The big reveal As with any build, the seldom seen underside stencils turned out best.
AliGauld
Very nicely done. One day I will have the guts to try painting the roundels and such on but for now I can live vicariously through this. Thanks. Cheers, Alistair

AdrianMF
Nice roundels! Regards, Adrian 1
Cookenbacher
Thanks folks! I have to admit that the roundels look better in the pics than they do up close - I think that every colour you add to a stencil increases its difficulty exponentially - so the Type B roundels on top of the wings turned out very nice, the Type A's on bottom turned out fine, and the yellow surrounded A1's on the fuselage could use a little work! Letters seem like they should be more difficult than roundels, but as long as your cutter can handle making them, they're much easier to apply. Unmasked Next up: the serials - which are about as small as my cutter can go.

Cookenbacher
Alright, time for the tiny serials: They really are at the edge of the cutter's abilities and I went through several stencils before finding two that would work. Herb, cleanup on Aisle P! And look at the roundel while you're at it. And the fin flash on the other side. I forgot one of my hard earned lessons; always paint white last. OK, lots of places need a little clean up, but the main painting is done.
giemme
Well done on the small serials, Cookie! And I can see the tidying up is going to be minimal - great job! Ciao
Cookenbacher
Well, tragedy struck this build when I applied poster paints for weathering (something I've done on almost every build for the last eight years or so), they melted off the entire top level of paint! All gone; stencils, camo, everything. I expect these kind of setbacks - it's part of my usual 'shoot from the hip' painting style, but this one was tough because it was simple water based poster paints that did me in, not some ridiculous experiment. I'm pretty sure it was due to my mixing in Mission Models paints with the Vallejo and Lifecolor - I've had trouble with Mission becoming chalky and just wiping off before. I'm back on the horse over in the F-5 STGB with a WHIF F-20 if anyone is interested:
