giemme
Looking good Giemme. Lovely, detailed progress in the cockpit. Thanks Stix! More detail painting in the tub, now it's almost completed but for the washes: All the details have been painted using Lifecolor's, except for the brass used on some piping on the back of the rear cockpit - that was Italeri Brass (acrylic, of course) Top parts of the seats have been painted too; in progress: and completed, again but for the washes: top parts (sorry, slightly out of focus) All those parts have been Future coated, so that today I can apply some dark washes and seal everything with a matt coat; I still need to paint the control sticks and the sidewalls, though. rob85
So now I need to send figures in the post for you to paint AND cockpits, as yours are ace! Nice work giemme! It's looking very good and you have done a great job of picking out the detail.... Your hands and eyes might be 45 but they have the jump on my eyes which are 15 years younger! giemme
Thanks everybody for the positive feedback! I must say I'm pretty happy with the level of detail of the MONO tub; that made things easier as far as painting is concerned. Today I started painting the control sticks, and prior to the primer coat I hadn't realized the amount of details MONOGRAM has put into those two tiny bits of plastic: all triggers and buttons are there, so again it's just going to be a matter of picking them out with some paint. So now I need to send figures in the post for you to paint AND cockpits, as yours are ace!Nice work giemme! It's looking very good and you have done a great job of picking out the detail.... Your hands and eyes might be 45 but they have the jump on my eyes which are 15 years younger! Tomorrow for some more pictures - I love being on holidays Ciao
Biggles87
Can I send you some of mine too, especially figures? It's hard to believe that this is all in 1/72 ( I may have said that before. ) John

It's hard to believe that this is all in 1/72 ( I may have said that before. ) John Thanks John! ;thumbsup: Send figures over ... but I don't guarantee I'll send them back once painted The cockpit looks awesome Giemme! Happy New Year my friend. Cheers Cookie, thanks! Happy New Year to you too! Regarding the pitot heads on the fin, Master is your friend: http://master-model.pl/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=309&category_id=9&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56 Thanks Sten, I remember you suggested that on my F-4J build too I had already decided to scratch build them, also because when looking for the AMs I was going to use for this build, they were out of stock where I normally buy them. But I have a couple of ideas, so I'll work on them first and see what I get. Thanks again, anyway Later for an update (with lots of pics) Ciao
giemme
Here we go; interiors eventually completed, let's see the sidewalls. Detail painting: as usual, I used Lifecolor acrylics, doing some regular brush painting and some dry-brush. I then sealed everything with a Future coat and started with a dark wash. I didn't feel like using oils this time, so I went with an acrylic one, going with a technique I sometimes use on figures: one brush to moist with water the areas where I want the wash to concentrate, another (fine tipped) for the actual wash. After the wash, I applied a coat of Lifecolor Matt Clear by brush. So, starting from the tub: seats and sidewalls Control sticks, painted as per Gene's indications - sorry, my pics don't really make them justice, but as said earlier the level of detail here is amazing, for injected plastic: Here's the tub with pilot's IP in place: Dry fit: that showed a problem with the IP coaming that I was expecting Dremel to the rescue I also had to remove two of the locating pins to have a proper fit Much better now. There's still a lot of void between the coaming and the IP sides, much more than on the real AC, so I think I'll have to do something about that Seats dryfitted in place: Looks crowded enough to me. What do you guys think? Happy New Year everybody!
Gene K
Looks crowded enough to me. What do you guys think? You need to reset the G Meter, and the clock in the rear pit is not showing the same time as the front. Gene K

Fritag
And you've got different pressure settings on the main and standby altimeters...... Great looking cockpits Giorgio. I'll be well pleased if I get the cockpits in my Hawks to look anywhere near as good as that

giemme
And you've got different pressure settings on the main and standby altimeters...... Don't know what those are either, but I think I'm gonna blame Monogram for that Great looking cockpits Giorgio. I'll be well pleased if I get the cockpits in my Hawks to look anywhere near as good as that Thanks Steve, much appreciated I have no doubt your cockpits are going to turn out great, the preparation work has been outstanding! I keep checking to see that this is actually 1/72.... brilliant work. Cheers Leon, thanks! I feel more confident as I go along, with this scale ... But I still feel more at my ease with 1/48 Ciao

And you've got different pressure settings on the main and standby altimeters...... You know Giorgio, I used to think I was fairly good at painting 1/72 'pits. I'm going to have to rethink that idea, mine are just nowhere near in the same class as yours! Most excellent work again! Happy New Year to you & yours too!! jgrease
Isn't it remarkable that the Revell/Monogram F-4 has better details than the one put out by Hasegawa? If it wasn't for the raised panel lines it would still be the best kit available in 1/72. John

Gene K
Which ones would [the G Meters and clocks] be? They are the ones close to the faulty main and standby altimeters that Fritag pointed out. Gene K
GAF
Hey Giorgio! That's looking really spiffy! mirageiv
Really special work Giorgio, the '3D-ness' you have managed to create in the cockpit for the scale is amazing, keep going David.
Biggles87
I've always liked the raised interior detail of the old Monogram kits, ( look at the weapons bays of the F-102 and F-106 ) but you have to be able to paint them well, and you certainly can. giemme
Thanks everybody for commenting - and pointing out the faulty IP gauges and missing cup holders . I actually forgot a couple of details I wanted to add to the seats, namely the emergency harness release handles, so last night I scratch built them out copper wire, hammering it flat: They were then primed, painted, Future coated and cut to size. I glued them in using very tiny drops of CA. See you next year, guys! Ciao
