My 1/144th Collection

Recommended Posts

In preparation for a move into another room, I have emptied my display cabinet and thought that I would take the opportunity to photograph the 1/144th aircraft whilst they were all out together. Some have featured on Britmodeller in the GB section, so apologies to those of you who may have seen them..

A nice little collection... and it all fits on the top of that nice wooden matchbox ;) What's the dog in your avatar BTW? :)

I like ingenious way you've got over the impossible closeness of the two canopies in the Topgun dio... it would be pretty tricky to carry out IRL, but hey

Brilliant collection. How big is that Me163 Komet ? Are you a Jeweller or Watchmaker ? Great detail ,its made my eyes ache thinking about it. :hypnotised:

Well done !

Cheers Mike, you should see the size of the pocket that the matchbox fits into. ;) The dog is a 'dolly mixture crossbreed' that we rescued from Manchester Dogs Home. When we were thinking of getting a dog, we made the fatal decision to ' just go for a look around' and we came out with her and a lighter wallet, but she has been worth it.

Wow! excellent models being shown there John.

I'm also a 1:144 collector and have been building them for the last five years or so...... if only I can get around to actually finishing them :banghead:

Thanks for your comment bzn20. Neither a watchmaker or jeweller but I was used to working with very close tolerances when working as a Turner/Grinder at what was to become B.Ae Systems but was Hawker Siddeley Aviation when I started work. This scale does play havoc with your eyes though if you work at it for too long.

Edit

Forgot to give you an answer re Me 163. The fuselage length is approx. 6cm and span about 9cm.

Cheers bootneck. I do work in other scales, but these take up less room and I can have as much fun making one. Stick with bud, I'm sure you will get them completed.

Thank you Paul, I have just received the Xtradecal RAF Typhoon sheet, so keep watching for some of those appearing in the near future.

Hard to believe they are all 1/144th!

Slovak Mig-21 is my favourite there.

Richard

Glad that you like the Slovak MiG-21 Richard, it's a great little kit. Just to give you some idea of the size, here is the last Spitfire I did, apologies for the out of focus image.

Hi John,

I suspect you may be bear-like with a 20+ cm-wide hand, so that a 1/48 Spitfire fits rather snugly in it! Nice try!

Beautiful collection by the way. Especially the Tornadoes that all carry schemes more than tricky to do in 1/72... so in the midget scale... Not for me.

I believe I am too OCD for 1/144 (that's what I tell myself anyway), but the last one I built a few years ago (AV-8B, from Revell), didn't look anything like an AV-8B around the canopy and nose; I finally threw it into the spares' box. Things I believe are changing as far as quality and details are concerned, but I have lost the interest to try again...

You put me to shame, and that's good.

Congratulations on some brilliant builds. Next time put a flea to show the models' size.

They don't look like 1/144 models they are so nicely detailed that they look like 1/72 scale !

(you should have placed a lighter or a matchbox in the middle of your picture to convince the unbelievers !)

Thanks for the comments gents. With the cabinet in its new location they have all been returned.

A final couple of shots, the first shows a shelf of mixed scale models which includes a Tamiya 1/48 Me.109E, an Airfix 1/72 Me.109G, Tamiya's 1/100 Me.163 and Me.262 and Eduard's 1/144 Spitfire Mk.9's.

This one shows the six 1/144 Tornado aircraft alongside a couple of 1/144 Harriers and the Lightning all on a shelf measuring 31cms x 31cms.

More "scale confusion" effect for the eye the 1/48 bf109

looks like a huge 1/24 model ! confusion between scales for the observer is a sign that a kit is perfectly built

congratulations
