holy crap! totally sweet build

by the way, your photo of the pilots/ground crew posing reminded me of a rare OOP 1/48 Japanese figure set by SOL model - I had a quick search on eBay & there it was! What a bit of luck...

I believe Eduard also make a 1/48 Japanese pilot / ground personnel set

also - a company called deluxematerials.com make a product called Solid Water which brilliantly mimics deep water - especially good for still water, check it out:

I really thank you richdlc but I've already got the W.S. realistic water..I have no idea how it works as this is my first attempt in makin dio water, having only got you tube info..As for the figures I got them too and, believe me they are much more 'lightly' dressed! lol!

Thanks again..

Hi all!

Well,I've been modelling for more than 20 yrs and this was the first time I had done so much paperwork..The situation almost reached to a nerve-wracking point as you'll see..

Well, the point was to make some 4-5 tall and slim coconut palms for my 'Pete resting on the beach' project..

265-1.jpg

To tell the truth, after looking at many photos of palm trees in scale I just wanted to give more attention to this beautiful tree than just cut along fabric plant leaves.Having seen a very large number of Pacific palms on the internet I picked this one as a reference..

055-2.jpg

Ι collected some pine tree twigs,

I cut off the excess and I baked them in the oven despite some protesting by my wife..lol!..

432.jpg

Back to the bench for painting..

439.jpg

Having done this I added thread to show the rings on the trunk..

560.jpg

563.jpg

Now for the fronds..Show a little understanding please!!lol!!

540-2.jpg

541-1.jpg

005-4.jpg

549-1.jpg

Seventy leaves were done that way..(5 palms x 14 fronds)..

I am done!!! HOORAY!!! Well, the more I looked at the result the more I hated it! So I added some more green to the fronds..

066.jpg

The fronds were too long and the trunks too..So..

014.jpg

005-6.jpg

...At that time I decided to work on each palm tree separately..

033.jpg

004-4.jpg

I added some leaves one by one like they do in hair extensions lol!!

067.jpg

052.jpg

051.jpg

As my blood pressure was getting higher I cut along some more A4 paper to a better shape this time..

021-1.jpg

011.jpg

Now I was getting somewhere..

006-1.jpg

028-1.jpg

The 1st palm was done..The others to follow later on..Now time to calm down and relax a little!!!

Cheers,

Panos.

I'm not fooled, that is a real engine being held by very large tweezers and those are real trees on a very large cutting mat. Or do you have one of those miniaturising machines that some other people around here must have?

The painting of the cockpit is fantastic and all the other work is well beyond anything I would attempt, truly awe inspiring.

Hi guys!

Thank you for your replies and encouraging comments!

I'd like to show you now my completed diorama. It took me 8 months to finish and I enjoyed every single minute of it!

Hope you like it!
Cheers,
Panos.

Very, very impressive. The trees especially are the best I have seen.

Your first photo especially looks real. I would be happy to photoshop the hard edge of the beach out on the right hand side if you would like me to, this is the only thing that gives it away.

Excellent work all round.
