  1. Long time ago Duncan but "Fuel Cell Number 7" chimes a distant bell. Also "The Navy had it but the RAF did not". Dennis
  2. In addition and for future reference, "T-Band" dimensions were listed by Rabbit Leader on this web site dated 13 August 2021 as follows :- 2 feet for Single Engined aircraft 3 feet for Twin Engined aircraft 4 feet for Multi Engined aicraft For those of you of a Metric disposition, I'll let you work out the equivalent. DR
  3. Bit of additional information :- On this web site dated 13 August 2021, "Rabbit Leader", of this parish, noted the following which I transcribed to my "Note-Book of useful bits" :- "Yellow T-Band dimensions" - 2 foot wide for Single-engined aircraft 3 foot wide for Twin-engined aircraft 4 foot wide for Multi-engined aircraft For those who are for a metric disposition, I'll let you work out the equivalent !! DR
  4. On 29, in Cyprus and at Ndola during my brief stay with them, ours had been painted Blue. DR
  5. Agreed. And vibration causes cracking and Cracking caused lumps to fall off. The strakes would just strengthen the area and prevent that (Hopefully !!) DR
  6. John B As I was taught in the late 50's and early 60's by a Mr Lamb at Halton, Red Dope was the Initial Taughtening Dope and was laid on to the bare fabric as opposed to brushing it on. Usually three coats were applied with a light sanding in between each coat prior to the Finishing coat being applied. Working in the Dope Shop was quite popular as it was possible to, legally, get as high as a kite on the stuff. In the end the Air Ministry concerned by the health effects of the staff, restricted fabric workers, usually Airframe guys, to one week a month in the Shop. The Bay was quite popular !! Dennis
  7. One of the most beautiful and comfortable aircraft that I ever flew in whilst in the Service. Wyton-Kai Tak, Wyton-South America via Goose and Palisados. Made the much vaunted Comet 4 look like a drain pipe. DR
  8. Does that include the Sampler mounted on the Starboard side of the cockpit to the rear on the modified Victors ? The Sampler Vulcans of 27Sqdn had it mounted under the Port mainplane just outboard of the port main landing gear door. Does it also include the full span mainplanes of the aircraft ? DR
  9. I remember the first aircraft, registered G-ASKE, operating from Luqa Airport in the mid sixties on "Hot and High trials" prior to the main contract being awarded to Short Bros. There was also a proposed version fitted with C-141 wings and powered by four RR Conways. That never advanced beyond the Proposal stage. Even the manufacturers admitted that the only reason the "Belf" had a rate of climb was because the Earth was round !! DR PS - Always parked up with the flaps down.
  10. "I'm not sure what the differences are of these kits. Can anyone advise please?":- I think that you will be pushed to get an Accurate early C-130K, the ones in the Tan/Dk earth/ Black as they all had rather pronounced Astrodome which was deleted and a fairing plate fitted soon after. Long time ago now but the RAF aircraft were all delivered in natural metal and painted up by Marshalls of Cambridge (not sure if they still exist). It may be worth checking to see if they are online. May not be available now but an issue of Airfix Magazine of that era did a detailed article on the aircraft and in particular the colour scheme. (Dk Earth/Light Stone/Black - all Gloss) HTH Dennis
  11. If you can get hold of a 1/72 Hastings or Valetta you could do a 70Sqdn Hastybird with 17 Lindholme Mk.2 air sea rescue containers under the fuselage as demonstrated to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh in mid '66 or you could do one of our Valetta's on Malta Com Flight, either VX539 or VW856 (both C.1's) which carried only two Lindholme externally and were re-established for the ASR task out of Malta once 38Sqdn was disbanded - again Mid '66. We on Malta Com often operated out of El Adem in Libya (which is full of desert and bleeding hot !), the VIP Valetta we had, C(VIP)2 VX574 spent most of its time ferrying the Governor General, Sir Maurice Dorman and Lady Dorman around Southern Europe on "Diplomatic Missions" ("Jollies" to us - RHIP). Dennis
  12. Thank you Jonners - been after that for a while- £26 through Amazon. Will check out the Miles and Bristol books before committing. Will advise as to what condition it arrives in. Dennis
  13. Lysanders could carry a Lewis or Vickers K in the rear cockpit. I also vaguely recall seeing a photo of a twin mounted set up in the same location - but find it in the files - can I hell as like !! Cheers Dennis
  14. Nice one Duncan - your build has just persuaded me to purchase a couple. In fact looking again - Very nice indeed (saved the pics for reference) Dennis.
