  1. The reel for the hook retraction on the Hawker co-ops was low down on the port side of the observers cockpit and the message was retreived through a hatch on the gunners floor just aft of the rear cockpit , not to be confused with the trailling aerial reel which was bigger and on the stbd side.
  2. I think they are W/T training airframes, yes Atlas's and a Wapiti.
  3. I can't hear of mention of Harry Woodman without a smile. I once attended a Cross and Cockade lecture about the early Russian Sikorsky Ilya Murometz aircraft by Harry. Harry started his talk by introducing himself and his subject and then began to expand more deeply for quite some minutes. to the Uk audience it was a jaw dropping experience because it was all in fluent Russian! he then reverted to English to much laughter. Harry was kind enough to send me early copies of his etched Spandau gun jackets so I could do a pattern fo a cast white metal set. A very knowlegeable man much missed. Jonners. when you do the pen ribs and want to put on a final coat of primer, allow the ink to dry thoroughly and then mist a thin coat of primer. again allow to dry then mist again,ad infinitum don.t at any time apply a thick wet coat of paint.
  4. Well done Carlos, The bound volumes are a pig to copy pages from. These Flight Achives were not available for quite a long time. I'm glad to see that they're back up again.
  5. 5 cylinders against 7 identical cylinders. Flight May 2nd 1930 seven page article on the Mongoose trainer with very good drawings.
  6. I just came across this interesting post. so if I may have a slight imput, The small Genet engines were different to the Mongoose/ Lynx / Jaguar/ Serval family. I think from the top of my head that these latter engines were designed to use the same cylinders and other components. Somewhere I have the Flight or Aeroplane in the bound volumes with the original appraisal of the Mongoose trainer.
  7. Oh dear Jon, I'm glad that you're trying the pen method, persevere it does work. I'm Mr Angry with halfords too, as their Aluminium paint was in my opinion the best simple spray cover for interwar Silver wings and that's another item which has disappeared from the shelves. Available from Hycote in many small car parts shops. I never encountered any problems with the Halfords Grey undercote, but I have with the Filler primer recently, reacting with top coats by splitting into cracks. Halfords do a grey Plastic primer so I might find the time to do some experiments. I've used the bow pens now for some years. there are some cheap ones on the web, but I urge folk to find a vintage proper drawing set as they are of high quality and finer pointed. Edit.. The only ink I use (for 1/48 scale) is Daler and Rowney FW Acryic White ink (good pigment). If you make a mistake, just wipe the rib line away with a damp tissue.
  8. I too have just dug out this book and the radio fit/ops panel is located behind the pilot. The radios were probably stacked in this position against the pilots bulkhead. The dark curved area is probably the kite shaped cockpit door, seen open, I'll try and scan the photo later. The engine generator fit probably accounts for the top cowling shape. John
  9. These are the reduced drawings. This is a dorsal turret, Hudson/ Halifax, the lower illustration by dogsbody is a nose (Halifax) turret, note the pivot bearing on the top and it's slightly narrower. John

  12. I do have a set of factory drawings for the C type but they are massive. I have some smaller copies and I've scanned them and if Photobucket will let me in tomorrow I'll try and share them. John
  13. G-AHKV 6792 I believe that it was primarily for reporting and broadcasting on traffic jams so it would have had a Radio op's desk, probably behind the pilot. The aircraft had a long and varied career with a standard seating fit. I have a photo of it in AA use and you can just see that it has a full load of passengers on board so the interior fit wasn't too different. John
