I'm aware of certain issues with the Airfix 1/48 Bucc re 'standard' warpage with every kit, but are they all this bad or is mine particularly bent?

All the following pics were taken with the nose lined up and taped. I'm particularly concerned about the rear fuselage near the airbrake and the massive gap between the wing and intake halves.

Cheers - That makes two then - wonder if others were in the same condition. Anyone?

I've seen that guide, thanks. Usually I wouldn't mind tackling something like this - seems doable.

It's just I need to know if it's the norm for these kits in case I decide to offload it some time.

Yep! , that looks about right for an Airfix Bucc, just wait til you start chopping bits out to make a S1. But ,seriously as Mark says, with a bit of patience it will all come together pretty good in the end.

no, that looks about right...as has already been said, check the builders giude on here and all will be well...ish.

Still has issues around the intakes and airbrakes...and jetpipes..etc, etc.

Yeah - that reminds me of mine at that stage .

I followed the guide and it came out OK.

A leap of faith is required but go for it!

I have this kit but I haven't started, or looked at it, yet.

Grateful if someone could point me to where I may find the 'Bucc Guide'?

thanks

welcome to the world, that is the Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer.

Most are not that bad, best to tape them up and then work round with super glue and kicker.

Airfix maybe able to replace the shells, but you might just get the same back, or Worse. :shithappens: :evil_laugh:

Your's came out nicely, Graham - hope I can do mine half as well.

Funny thing is, one of the women I work with bought that kit for her daughter.

The daughter had done a school project about aircraft, and she really liked the Buccanneer, so her mum bought one. She knew I built models, so she asked me for advice about the kit.

My reaction on finding out was "You bought WHAT for a beginner?!! :yikes: Run away.... or get the 1/72nd one!"

As far as I know, the kit's languishing somewhere in her house.

I want a Bucc for my RN collection but to be frank this kit SCARES the hell out of me. Mybe one day i get one and find my manhood and build it. But as the misses says "is that an elephant i see flying past the window?" She uses that a lot when i tell her i am buying something to build :innocent: , no idea why.

Cool X-Wing kit!

What boxing was that? I know Airfix/Humbrol (1986-2006) had problems with some later batches.

That's quite a bit more warped than mine ever was.

Mine had a problem at the bulge in the aft fuselage, one half had to be spread or else it would fiit neatly inside the other half. I understand that was pretty typical too.

Take your time and join the fuselages in stages, rear to front. It does come out OK with some fettling.

Buy the 72nd one and offer to swop it :)

Somewhat tempting, but I believe the kit was wrecked in an attempt to build it!

Besides, I'd prefer to keep the 72nd one for meself! ;)
